Thursday Night Coffeehouse is a celebration of up to four local and touring artists coming together in an intimate, coffeehouse setting at the venerable Artichoke Community Music. It is a wonderful opportunity to hear artists of all levels in a listening room setting. It is also important to note that each artist is donating their performance to contribute to Artichoke's mission. Because of this we encourage our audiences to tip the performers if they are able. Beer, wine, soft drinks, and light snacks are available for purchase at the bar. India, a former blues singer raised on a healthy diet of hippie jam sessions with punk undertones, called out for a woman to play guitar and sing uplifting, harmony-driven acoustic music. Nikki, otherwise known as the Rock n Roll Fairy to her music students, and long time songwriter and guitar player, answered that call. The rest is music blisstory! They enjoy nerding out on harmonies, feeling moved by stories of spirit and discovery through music, and exploring this new era of life and music together. Catch them singing love songs at weddings, transition songs at funerals, customized covers as singing telegrams, and at house concerts and intimate venues. A lifelong singer and guitar player, he has only in the last few years started writing and sharing his own songs. His songs are lyrically driven, heartfelt, and occasionally clever, at least in his mind. Vince’s original tunes show the influence of John Prine, Jason Isbell, Bruce Springsteen, and his many other musical heroes. The Prairie Benders Duo is the creative vision of singer-songwriter Jason Ferris and fiddle player Meghan Coil. The duo’s dark Americana sound occupies a unique space in the folk-rock genre by being unapologetically fiddle-forward. Meghan crafts soaring melodies, catchy hooks, bluegrassy licks and even chromatic weirdness that transform the fiddle into a storyteller in its own right. Jason’s songs navigate the terrain of life’s accumulated trauma with a vulnerability and beauty that somehow leave you feeling better about it all.
