Christafari Biography
“Gospel reggae” pioneers around the world.
We are all musicianaries, reaching the lost at any cost, and making disciples of all nations! We share the Gospel through FREE concerts and humanitarian efforts to approximately 30 countries per year!
In 1989, Mark Mohr (age 17) encountered God and was released from a history of drug addiction. That encounter led him to start the first Gospel reggae band in the hopes of helping people escape the same bondage he overcame through Christ.
A friend said to teenage Mark, “So you’re not a Rastafarian; you’re a Christafarian” and the name stuck. In Biblical Greek, Christafari means a group of people who bear Christ’s name. Along with his musical endeavours and accomplishments, Mohr became an ordained minister in theological school.
Christafari’s first major tour was Mohr’s greatest dream - the Reggae Sunsplash Tour of ‘95 reaching 46 cities in just 53 days! Over the past 30 years, Christafari has performed in over 90 nations, two Olympic Games, a Presidential Inaugural Ball, and in Washington DC during 1996's “Washington For Jesus!” before a crowd of over 500,000 people.
In 1999, after the release of Soul Fire and Valley of Decision (1993 and 1994 respectively) with Gotee Records, Mohr founded his own record label, Lion of Zion Entertainment and GospelReggae.com
Now, with over 30 albums, Christafari was the first Gospel artist to hit #1 on the Reggae Billboard Charts with Reggae Worship: A Roots Revival. They have made countless television appearances and even have their music studied as a curriculum in Carnegie Hall, and yet Mohr states, “We care more about hearts than charts. We only play as a way to fulfill the great commission.”
The ChristafariBand YouTube channel has millions of views each month, over 450,000 subscribers and since 2017, they have released one music video per month!
Despite the challenges they face as a group of Gospel reggae missionaries, the lives changed across the globe through their music and mission make it all worth while! Christafari internationally tours year round with the hope of reaching every nation.
They’re well on their way to one million decisions for Christ as they continue to perform and preach the gospel across the globe!
