The Feralings Biography

The Feralings are Patrick Bloom (guitar/vocals), Benj Upchurch (mandolin/vocals), and Nicole Upchurch (banjo/vocals). Together they travel a vast musical landscape combining sparkling harmonies, evocative songwriting and thoughtful musicianship. Their sound is best described as mountain music from the plains, country music from town, and blues for happy folks or-simply put-damn good original music.

Patrick has performed in the critically acclaimed Iowa roots bands The Mayflies and The Letterpress Opry while producing records and releasing several noteworthy solo albums (https://patrickbloom.bandcamp.com).

Nicole is a member of Iowa's all-female quintet, Awful Purdies (http://www.awfulpurdies.com), and is an assistant director for the The Family Folk Machine, a non-profit, intergenerational, non-auditioned choir in Iowa City (http://familyfolkmachine.org).

Benj, having worked as a luthier in Montana for Bruce Weber (https://webermandolins.com), decided to put aside building mandolins for a position in the ceramics department at the University of Iowa (https://art.uiowa.edu).
