Tony Humphries Music Biography

Tony Humphries is a new wave hip-hop rapper who has already established himself as a rare breed of talented freestyler. He has received multiple radio plays including features on BBC Introducing, Eagle Radio and Round House Radio. After his live session for BBC Introducing the South, Tony was chosen as a Pick of the Year for his tracks “Life is Changing Me” and “Change for Yourself”. Tony has also featured in Kerrang! Magazine, Rocksound Magazine/CD and Front magazine and he’s currently leading up to releasing his debut album.

His most recent gigs include; Independent Music Day Festival in Camden, a packed out Boileroom in Guildford and 3 sold out shows in Germany where he had the mayor of Eberbach moshing and singing along with the crowd.

From a young age Tony has had a fascination with lyrics. He grew up listening to The Doors and Led Zeppelin. As a child he would write poetry and by age 9 he’d written his first track “I play football everyday”, it wasn’t commercially successful. After recovering from the flop, Tony took some time to work on himself; this is when he discovered hip-hop.

By the age of 14 Tony had formed EKR with Astro Blacksmith, Empra and a number of local MCs. They used to bunk off school to cypher and battle rappers at Raw Material in Brixton. This is where Tony discovered his talent for freestyling. After the group split, Tony changed his direction and started Nylon Sky, an alternative band that blended hip-hop and rock music. Nylon Sky toured the UK, USA and Europe for ten years. Their album ‘Little Things, Bigger Picture’ gained critical acclaim, leading to them playing at the 02 Academy, headlining Camden Underworld and appearing at a number of festivals.

In 2015 the band split; Tony went through a number of personal issues during this time and it took a toll on his mental wellbeing. He was admitted to The Priory for depression and it was here that Tony started writing for his solo project. After his discharge he linked up with production duo Eastern Disco”and they released his first solo single “Would You Rather?”. The track was immediately met with recognition from the BBC.

Press
"Tony sticks to his tight rhymes and catchy rhythms, but adds a new layer of personal connection with those that listen to his music, influencing others. His music's powerful and my favourite song of his, "Change For Yourself" is only the beginning of what he has to bring.” - Vicky Carter - Mi Soul/KLFM/Eagle Radio/Eagle 3/INRIX Media.
