About this concert
Get ready to groove! Uncle Devin's back at DCPL's STAR Fest this year with his awesome band featuring Matt "Swamp Guinee" Miller on Percussion and Groovy Nate on Guitar. Don't miss out on the fun – come join the party! STAR Fest is a FREE family festival that celebrates all the ways you can help your child grow into a confident learner as you complement reading with singing, talking, writing and playing. DC Public Library invites your family to celebrate singing, talking and reading at this year's STAR Fest! DC Public Library's Books from Birth program proudly presents STAR Fest 2024! STAR stands for Sing, Talk and Read, three of the key early literacy practices. For families across D.C., Books from Birth is a huge part of the "R" in STAR! That's because with Books from Birth D.C. residents with children ages Birth to 5 can get a free book delivered to their home each month. If you sign up when your child is born, you can receive up to 60 high-quality children's books to add to your home library! [Referenced from the DC Public Library website] The Uncle Devin Show® is an interactive musical experience for children by renowned drummer, Devin Walker. Uncle Devin and 25 other artists are members of the 1 Tribe Collective whose album “All One Tribe” was GRAMMY - nominated for Best Children’s Music Album in 2022. The entire family will experience the rhythm of Uncle Devin’s infectious blend of Jazz, Funk, and DC’s official music, Go-Go. The show cultivates the minds of children through percussion instruments and is a dynamic cross between DC’s Trouble Funk and Schoolhouse Rock. Uncle Devin is also a Teaching Artist with both the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning and Teaching for Change and owner of the children’s online music platform, WEE Nation Radio.

The Uncle Devin Show Biography

Born in Washington, DC, and raised in the nearby suburb of Seat Pleasant, MD Uncle Devin was heavily influenced by the rhythms of the official music of DC, Go-Go, as well as Jazz, Bossa Nova, and conscious Hip Hop. He took over his brother's drum set at an early age and never looked back.

The Uncle Devin Show® is an interactive musical experience, taking children on a magical journey through the Land of Percussion. Driven by the desire to use his gifts to inspire children, Uncle Devin's purpose is to ensure a more loving, peaceful, and equitable world for all.

Uncle Devin was a GRAMMY Nominee as part of the 1 Tribe Collective’s album “All One Tribe” including his song, “A Go-Go Fun Day” in 2022.

As an activist, diversity trainer, and teaching artist, he developed a powerful presentation, Racism in Children's Music: Liberating Music for the Black Child!, exploring solutions to eradicate racist lyrics, cartoons, books, and more that are still harmful to this day.

He is also the creator of Watoto Entertainment & Education or WEE Nation Radio, a 24/7 online music radio program for children providing age-appropriate family music in R&B, Jazz, World music, and more, which culturally affirms and nurtures our future generation. In September 2022, "In the Pocket", one of the first children's Go-Go albums was inspired by the official music of Washington, DC Go-Go and it's legendary bands.

“...he’s connected with children of all races, many of whom are growing up on R&B and hip-hop, too. - Michael J. West / Washington Post

“Uncle Devin’s Drum Tales takes an innovative and progressive approach to music, self-awareness, confidence, and fun, and is a wonderful album that children, parents and educators will all find beneficial.” - Lahri Bond/ Parents Choice Award
