maví lou Biography

what happens when the carnival is packed up, the lights taken down, and the transformative potential of the crowd, of communion, replaced by the silence of what comes after the show?
for singer-songwriter maví lou, the last decade represented just such a life – years spent recording, touring and traveling with her band The Dove & the Wolf -or as a celebrated session musician (The War On Drugs, Nightlands, Johanna Samuels, Liza Anne, Faye Webster, Natalie Prass, Maggie Rogers), the blend of displacement and euphoria, and then the post-tour melancholy, a nostalgia for the heady experience of life on the road. the sudden expanses of time and how to use it.
finding the life she’d known utterly changed, maví lou set herself a challenge – to write a song a day for a couple weeks. these songs form the basis of her upcoming debut solo EP, a suite imbued with a profound sense of longing, constructed of layers of delicate, synth-pop production, all carried on the spectacular, rich, emotive instrument that is maví lou’s voice.
co-producing the record alongside Thad Kopec in nashville and finally mixing and mastering it in paris, having relocated after 7 years in the US, this is music that communicates with subtle poetry, as well as a masterful sense of harmony and texture, the emotional heft of geographic displacement, the strangeness of the dream world, of the sometimes exquisite hurt of acknowledging the passing of time.
