About this concert
A performance of the uplifting, heart-felt songs of Eileen Alanna who has been described as “a fine songwriter who can combine intriguing, personal lyrics with a shiny pop sensibility” alongside members of her Huddersfield band Fishing4Compliments who “specialise in catchy hook-laden folk/pop songs”(Peter Cowley, FATEA Magazine). Fishing4Compliments formed over a decade ago organically around Eileen’s songs, written as a way to express emotions and cope with life’s rich tapestry, with all members of the band having a shared passion for developing and creating the unique, quirky sound they like to call their own. The band will be performing songs from their debut album 'Off the Isle of Somewhere' (produced by successful Leeds indie/folk band The Dunwells and released in 2020) along with some hints of the songs that will be featured on their forthcoming second album. Fishing For Compliments Biography

Fishing4Compliments are a five piece indie/folk band from Yorkshire. The band formed organically around lead singer-songwriter’s Eileen’s emotive songs with all members sharing a passion for developing and creating their unique sound which has emerged from the eclectic mix of influences from which they draw including; The Beatles, XTC, Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, The Cure, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Oasis, The Sundays and The Cranberries to name but a few. They have been gigging across the North of England and beyond since 2011 often adapting their formation to suit the event space and venue with Eileen’s songs and retro vibe voice always being pivotal. The band strive to offer audiences light and shade in their performances and audience members have referred to their music as ‘uplifting’ ‘sunny’ and ‘making you feel like dancing in the moonlight.’ The description of the band by the owner of Loafers Vinyl & Coffee, an award winning independent record store, provides more insight into what expect from a Fishing4Compliments show.
“Beautiful folk music, with sounds of Fleetwood Mac, The Cranberries and The Cardigans. Dreamy Melodies and harmonies, weaved together with great musicianship and songs that take you away from everyday life. Great band who love playing live and the audience can’t do anything but enjoy it and want to hear more” (Mark Richardson-Owner of Loafers Vinyl & Coffee, The Piece Hall, Halifax)
Fishing4Compliments have twice been nominated within the category of Outstanding Yorkshire Artist/Band as part of the Yorkshire Gig Guide’s Grassroots Awards in 2018 and 2019 and their most prestigious gig to date has been being asked by Loafers Vinyl to open a folk night event headlined by Chris Helme of The Seahorses located in the unique and spectacular surroundings of a speigeltent in Yorkshire’s unique architectural and cultural landmark that is The Piece Hall.
The release of their debut album 'Off The Isle Of Somewhere' produced by successful Leeds based indie/folk band The Dunwells led to a nomination within the category of best Folk/Acoustic Act as part of the Radio Wigwam Awards 2020 and the songs continue to enjoy regular radio play across community and internet radio. The comments of reviewers regarding this initial record of their journey together with the songs provide further insights into what to expect from the music of Fishing4Compliments.

“Bright and breezy and at times utterly irresistible’ and “Eleven tracks of upbeat and optimistic folk-pop” (Dave Beech, RGM Magazine).
“Light and upbeat folky/pop dominates Off The Isle Of Somewhere by Huddersfield’s FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS. The sound is somewhere between Fairground Attraction and The Beautiful South. The songs are jaunty and foot tapping..” (RnR Magazine)
“F4C specialise in catchy, hook-laden folk/pop songs written by Eileen, which features her clear, natural voice, sometimes with vibrato, which gives the band’s music a distinctive unique sound. Eileen is also a fine songwriter who is able to combine intriguing, personal lyrics with a shiny pop sensibility” (Peter Cowley, FATEA Magazine).
“This is a fantastic album of songs that are uplifting and joyful there, moody, rich and evocation here. Songs that are written and played from the heart. Lovely” (Frank, Local Sound Focus)
