About this concert
Join us for an intimate evening with multi Juno and American Music Award winner Alfie Zappacosta. Italian born, Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer Alfie digs deep into his own heart and translates those emotions into imaginative literary and philosophical insights. Alfie delivers his artistry, a sophisticated and unforgettable performance of rich soaring vocals and captivating melodies. The latest of his 16 albums, Saved, released by Alma Records in 2021, draws on jazz, pop and rock elements. Alfie’s vocal dexterity and song writing proficiency were uncovered by a publisher while writing for his first original band “Surrender, a five-piece group that recorded three albums in the late 1970s into the early 1980s. As a solo artist Alfie's career took off with a legacy of hits that brought him to the world's attention. "Start Again”, “Passion”, “When I Fall in Love Again” and “Nothing Can Stand In Your Way” written with David Foster. In 1988 he was awarded JUNOs for “Album of The Year’ and “Most Promising Artist”, and American Music Award for “Most Popular Album of The Year”. These hit songs were originally written for acoustic and jazz presentations. Writing for radio began to rub against his musical integrity and he became frustrated with the demands of music trends. Alfie broke from the stereotype and began to write the lyrics and melodies that were authentically him, revealing his insight into relationships and his advanced knowledge of music.”

Alfie Zappacosta Biography

Zappacosta's first band was Surrender, a five-piece that recorded three albums in the late 1970's into the early 1980's. In 1984 he recorded his first self-titled solo album which contained the hit singles "Passion" and "We Should Be Lovers". As a result, he subsequently won the Juno Award for "Most Promising Male Vocalist". The next year he lent his vocals to the Canadian charity production "Tears Are Not Enough", singing the lines "Maybe we could understand the reasons why" in the fifth stanza.

His second album A-Z was released in 1986 and featured the hit singles "When I Fall (In Love Again)" and "Nothing Can Stand In Your Way". Following this, a Zappacosta song "Overload" was added to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, one of the biggest selling soundtracks of the 80s.

A third album Quick!...Don't Ask Any Questions was released in 1990, before Zappacosta took time off to hone his vocal and guitar skills. He also pursued acting in various stage performances, as well as a role in the 2005 Canadian movie Halo (not to be confused with the movie about the Microsoft videogame of the same name).

He has subsequently released more personal albums, including 2004's Start Again which contains reworked versions of some of his classic hits from the 80s. Zappacosta is actively touring across Canada in 2006.
