A CANTADEIRA is the woman who sings: ancient melodies, rhythms and identity.

A CANTADEIRA is a Woman, Mother, Singer, Bagpiper and Adufeira, (Adufe player, the traditional square drum) who types melodies, candescent noises and murmurs. She sings the identity in a tapestry of voices, like lines that intertwine one another. She looks for inspiration in the women of the past and the women of today, in our mothers, aunts and grandmothers whose voices sang us lullaby’s, cradled, nourished and raised us leaving in each one of us a strong and emotional feminine legacy.

A CANTADEIRA is Joana Negrão, with a musical background linked to Portuguese oral music, from her band Dazkarieh in the past to Seiva, in the present.
She performs solo in a show in which the voice is the guiding thread for ancestral and current soundscapes. Using the constant recording of layers of overlapping, voices are recorded live and in real time.
