Ohad Niceberg Biography

Ohad Niceberg is a guitarist originally from Israel, currently living in New York and Tel Aviv part-time.

Ohad is frequently playing in some of the best jazz clubs in Israel and in New York, most of the times with his trio, and sometimes with his quartet, and also playing as a sideman with leading jazz musicians.

In 2023, Ohad won 1st prize at The Smietana Jazz Guitar Competition in Krakow, Jugged by Peter Bernstein, Romian Pilon and more.

He is also a member of Spice’n’Space, a new funk band with flutist Mattan Klein and drummer Uria Mader, who released their first album in 2023.

In 2019, when Ohad was 19, he got accepted to the JAS Academy (with full scholarship), a two weeks program in Aspen, Colorado, where some of the best young jazz musicians in the world played in a Big-Band led by the great Christian Mcbride, learning with teachers like Shelly Berg, having master classes with Arturo Sandoval, Emmet Cohen, Veronica Swift, Bryan Lynch, and many more.

Ohad began playing the guitar at the age of 11, after studying classical piano at the ages 7-10 at the “Israel Music Conservatory”, there he played in many concert and recitals, and learned music theory. Both of his parents are musicians, his dad, Eric Niceberg, is one of the best jazz pianists in Israel, played with musicians such as, Joel Frahm, James Carter, Eric Alexander, and many more.

Ohad Graduated high school at “Ironi Alef School of Arts”, one of the highly regarded schools for art in Israel, he studied jazz there.

During this period, he had a chance to perform with the school ensembles, and also with the school’s Big-Band, which included many collaborations with some of the best jazz musicians in Israel, like Eli Degibri, and many others.

In addition to learning jazz in high-school, Ohad also played in jazz ensembles of the Israel Music Conservatory jazz department that was under the direction of saxsaphonist Yuval Cohen. He played in ensembles under the direction of top Israeli jazz musicians as saxsaphonist Matan Chapnizky and others.

Ohad studied jazz guitar with Amos Ever Hadani, one of the most prominent artists in Israel.

He also studied classical guitar with Shlomo Ydov, a leading composer and classical guitarist in Israel.
