About this concert
The Redgum Years John Schumann and the Vagabond Crew John Schumann – singer-songwriter and the unmistakable voice of the legendary Australian folk-rock band Redgum – takes to the stage with his international class, 6-piece band, the Vagabond Crew. “Initially I wasn’t really keen but it was the Vagabond Crew who persuaded me to revisit the Redgum repertoire. It was their idea to call it “The Redgum Years”, to play 20 or so of Redgum’s most popular and enduring songs and, importantly, to tell the stories.” “We put up a couple of social media posts and the demand was pretty well instantaneous. Lots of people – I mean, lots and lots of people – flew in from interstate for those first Adelaide shows back in 2021. I guess I didn’t appreciate just how much those songs still mean to hundreds of thousands of Australians.” “For me, playing these songs is like getting back in touch with much-loved, much-missed family members after decades apart.” sell-out shows, standing ovations, outstanding reviews “The musicianship, unity and heart of the Vagabond Crew supporting Schumann’s showmanship and storytelling made for a magic show.” (The Pineapple) With Special Guest Michael Waugh Michael is a revered songwriter, a compelling live performer and an extraordinary storyteller. Among his admirers are Josh Cunningham from The Waifs, iconic singer-songwriter Eric Bogle and alt. country luminary Shane Nicholson. Michael has been the recipient of many awards including Folk and Roots album of the Year (Music Victoria Awards), Songs of Peace and Tolerance award (Pt. Fairy Folk Festival) and Heritage Song of the Year (Golden Guitar Awards). His forthcoming album ‘Beauty& Truth’ paints vivid, joyous, funny and loving pictures of growing up queer in rural Australia. The Redgum Years What the patrons are saying “Amazing. I was mesmerised.” “We had a great night. Love John Schumann’s stories!” “The gig was bloody sensational.” “Could have listened for another couple of hours.” “Fantastic and brilliant. Wonderful gig – brilliant musicians performing at their best.” “The Redgum Years. One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. I mean, ever!” “We laughed our heads off and we sang our hearts out. “A show where the audience is hanging off every word – and you feel like you are part of something special.” (The Pineapple)

FANTASTIC this would have been out 8th show we have seen by John Schumann. He is a legend 🙌 his music never gets old and his commentary on recent events speaks the truth. No WOKE personalities in this show! As they were told to F@#$ off early in the proceedings. Polly is fantastic on the keyboard and a personality that works well, F@#$knuckle and the rest of the boys well done. Wonder when I will see them again?

Redgum Biography

Redgum was an important Australian folk-rock band from Adelaide. They proved to a sceptical commercial music industry that there was a significant audience for songs sung in an Australian accent, using Australian place names and addressing political and social issues. They carved out a niche in Australian music that was followed artists like Midnight Oil and Paul Kelly. Redgum recorded five albums and their 2 biggest hits, “I was only 19” and “I've Been to Bali Too” were written by lead singer John Schumann. “I was only 19” became the Australian Vietnam veterans’ anthem and is one of the top 25 Australian songs of all time.
