About this concert
The Redgum Years
John Schumann and the Vagabond Crew
John Schumann – singer-songwriter and the unmistakable voice of the legendary Australian folk-rock band Redgum – takes to the stage with his international class, 6-piece band, the Vagabond Crew.
“Initially I wasn’t really keen but it was the Vagabond Crew who persuaded me to revisit the Redgum repertoire. It was their idea to call it “The Redgum Years”, to play 20 or so of Redgum’s most popular and enduring songs and, importantly, to tell the stories.”
“We put up a couple of social media posts and the demand was pretty well instantaneous. Lots of people – I mean, lots and lots of people – flew in from interstate for those first Adelaide shows back in 2021. I guess I didn’t appreciate just how much those songs still mean to hundreds of thousands of Australians.”
“For me, playing these songs is like getting back in touch with much-loved, much-missed family members after decades apart.”
sell-out shows, standing ovations, outstanding reviews
“The musicianship, unity and heart of the Vagabond Crew supporting Schumann’s showmanship and storytelling made for a magic show.” (The Pineapple)

Redgum Biography
Redgum was an important Australian folk-rock band from Adelaide. They proved to a sceptical commercial music industry that there was a significant audience for songs sung in an Australian accent, using Australian place names and addressing political and social issues. They carved out a niche in Australian music that was followed artists like Midnight Oil and Paul Kelly. Redgum recorded five albums and their 2 biggest hits, “I was only 19” and “I've Been to Bali Too” were written by lead singer John Schumann. “I was only 19” became the Australian Vietnam veterans’ anthem and is one of the top 25 Australian songs of all time.
