About this concert
Ron LeGault, keys
Andrew Vogt, sax
Curtis Fox, trombone
Dave Weinand, bass
Andreas Schmid, drums
Ron LeGault Quintet has been performing in the Denver/Boulder area for 12 yrs. It’s jazz with a strong rhythm, and the listening audience has helped the group to form an “up” repertoire. Some Horace Silver, The Crusaders, Keith Jarrett, Vince Guaraldi, and, to show off Andrew Vogt’s big-sound baritone sax, some Gerry Mulligan. Curtis Fox has a breathtaking trombone range, esp. on a ballad. Dave Weinand ‘s chops on electric bass are startling. Drummer Andreas Schmid, the ultimate “listening” drummer, has taste, texture and an extraordinary sense of time. And Ron pushes the rhythm from the keyboard.
The frontline of sax/trombone are tight, like they are one instrument. You will hear tunes that you know, and some you don’t, but will want to hear them again. The group’s signature performance is the annual “Charlie Brown goes to the Nutcracker”, performed for so many years at Hotel St Julien, Boulder, and now available on Octave Records.
