Tigran Tatevosyan Biography

Tigran Tatevosyan was born in a small town in Armenia, a country with a rich cultural tradition. He was introduced to the world of music at the age of six, when he started eight years of classical piano training at a Secondary Special Music School in Yerevan. From an early age on, he simultaneously developed a strong interest in improvised music. After completing his bachelor's degree, he decided to make Jazz his artistic path, which for him meant leaving his home country in search for new opportunities to develop his musical skills.

Thus, in 2017, Tigran enrolled at the Rachmaninov Conservatory in Rostov, Russia, with the aim of a master’s degree in jazz piano. His musical exploration started with a study of Oscar Peterson's work and then moved on through the music of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Lyle Mays, and Keith Jarrett. At the same time maintaining his interest in classical music, he also studied composers such as Debussy and Rachmaninoff. The rich harmonic, rhythmic and melodic language of the folk music of his homeland always attracted Tigran, and over time, this inspiration in combination with his studies in western music began to shape his unique composing and performing style.

Still in search of new ways to perfect his art, he moved to Hamburg in 2020, where he was accepted in Dr. Langner Jazz Master program at HfMT Hamburg where he had a chance to learn from such masters as Vladyslav Sendecki and Florian Weber. He shared the stage with Bob Moses, Nils Landgren, China Moses and others.

In 2022, things started to come together for Tigran, as he was given the opportunity to record his debut album “Mer Tan Itev” with drummer Ziv Ravitz and bassist Giorgi Kiknadze at Fattoria Musica Studio (Osnabrück). The program features Tigran’s original compositions inspired by Armenian folk music and modern jazz, as well as arrangements of Armenian folk songs, and besides the Trio format includes solo performances as well. This album is slated for release on the o-Tone label in May, 2024, with concerts being scheduled starting in the fall of 2024, which will Tigran in the spotlight as a seasoned performer with a real story to tell.
