About this concert
Awesome Choro Small Plates & Drinks Available We're so glad that this Brazilian family returns yet again to Traditions. Choro das 3 is a trio of three sisters from São Paulo, Brazil, who are highly regarded as some of the best choro musicians in the world. Choro is an enormously appealing musical style that originated in Brazil over 100 years ago and is now popular internationally. Choro a form of urban jazz native to Brazil that shares a similar feel with New Orleans jazz or ragtime or bluegrass. Of the three sisters, Corina plays flute and piccolo, Lia plays acoustic 7 string guitar, and Elisa, who writes many of their tunes, plays mandolin, clarinet, banjo, piano and accordion. From the time of the band’s founding, their father, Eduardo, played percussion. Tragically, he died from Covid early in the pandemic. They play every song in his memory. This is the band’s first US tour since the pandemic. In Brazil they play for presidents, governors, ministers and also for huge audiences such as São Paulo's New Year's Eve Party (2 million people) and at Morumbi Stadium (over 70,000 people). They have been on national TV many times, including the Brazilian version of "Letterman." Mike Marshall says Choro das 3 plays ". . . some of the most inspired and inspiring music . . . the highest level of musicianship and presentation . . . the highest quality of Brazilian Choro music that can be heard any place today."
