Kate Ellis Biography
Born In Louisiana, now based in London, Kate Ellis uses melancholy Americana/Folk to conduct fearless soul-searching. Kate’s southern country-folk roots come from her father, an important early musical influence – as a young man he once played guitar with Hank Williams on the famous Louisiana Hayride, where Elvis and Johnny Cash started out.
A journalist for the Observer described hauntingly beautiful songs, while Maverick Magazine called her debut album Carve Me Out “wryly reflective, sweetly melodic, touchingly compassionate and warm-hearted.” Americana UK gave her new album Spirals 9/10 calling it “An absolute joy. An irrefutable, unquestionable joy” while Folk Radio UK said, "Beguilingly sung, melodic, warm, tender, open and insightful – an early contender for 2022’s best-of lists."
“Brand new yet classically timeless – think Nanci Griffith with a modern twist.” – Lyric Magazine
“Telling stories from a deep dive into the heart – emotive songs that shimmer and shine.” Three Chords and the Truth
“Kate Ellis put down her law degree to pick up a guitar – thank God she did!” – BBC Radio Ulster
