"Odyssey to Self" is a captivating short film born from the creative vision of pianist and composer Orson Claeys. The short film is produced by 'Het Offensief', a young production house founded by Leon Hanssens and Loïc Meulenberg. Lisa Coene, currently studying at KASK Gent, takes on the role of director in this film.
This project distinguishes itself through its unique approach, where the creative process began with composing the music, contrary to the usual procedure in filmmaking.
Orson Claeys took the lead in composing the music, which served as the emotional core of the story. The music served as a source of inspiration and led to the development of the narrative.
The story, rooted in the theme of self-reflection, is written by Lisa Coene.
Synopsis:
"When the young man returns to his childhood home after the recent death of his mother, he is overwhelmed by memories and grief. Unable to confront his emotions, he runs away. Soon he realizes that true escape from the past does not lie in running away, but rather in facing it head-on."
"Odyssey to Self" is a collaboration between music and visuals, where two worlds come together and complement each other.

Orson Claeys is a 25-year-old musician from Ghent, Belgium.
His love for music was awakened at an early age. Although he comes from a non-musical family, music was a big part of his daily life. There was always a wide range of different genres at home, from classical music to Hip-Hop and from Rock to Jazz.
His musical journey began at the age of ten when he began playing classical piano, a path that eventually led him to art school to pursue it further. However, it wasn't until the age of seventeen, when he discovered the melodies of Herbie Hancock, that Claeys changed his musical course forever. Inspired by these new sounds, he decided to discover the world of Jazz.
Driven by his newfound passion, Claeys made the decision to delve deeper into jazz by enrolling in jazz piano studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the guidance of renowned artists such as Nathalie Loriers and Diederik Wissels.
Orson Claeys combines Jazz with Oriental music and hip-hop. Weaving together different cultural influences and musical genres, he creates compositions that take the listener on a journey through a rich tapestry of sounds and emotions.
Influenced by renowned musicians such as Aaron Parks, Ambrose Akinmusire, Shai Maestro and Dhafer Youssef, Claeys is constantly searching for his own unique sound within contemporary jazz.
