About this concert
Join us for the Cellar Roots Music Series at Alpino in Detroit! Samantha Cooper’s voice is a gentle force. Her songs speak for their sound; from contemplative respites to keen PSA’s. Her latest video single is a love note to the rights of manoomin titled "Let The Wave (feat. Shara Nova, Jaike Spotted Wolf, Holly T. Bird & Frank Bibeau)." Sam's voice and violin appear on over 75 Midwestern albums. She hails from Michigan's Huron and Kalamazoo River watersheds. Sam works as a songwriter, a session & supporting musician, an organizer, a guide/conflict worker and a teaching artist via Youth Arts Alliance. She also co-produces Hearth & Hymn with Elisabeth Pixley-Fink. "Wit and wisdom wrapped in a blanket." -Will Thomas, WNMC Radio. Elisabeth Pixley-Fink is a Michigan-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Her blend of distinctive folk and bratty garage rock hits you in the chest with guts, trust and hunger. Heartbreaking and heart-making. Heartskin, her upcoming full-length album, was recorded on tape in Detroit and Kalamazoo, Michigan, and mixed by Tim Carr (Perfume Genius, Hand Habits). Raised by a musicologist and a math professor in Kalamazoo, she also has musical ties to Portland, Oregon and Mexico City, and loves queer fashion and queer futurism. “Pure melodic inspiration...chilling, contained passion.”- Hugo Roca, Revista Replicante
