Husband/wife American folk-rock duo The Kennedys describe themselves as “Higher energy than a folk act, but not as loud as a rock band.”
Vocalists/guitarists Pete and Maura Kennedy, a husband and wife duo, first met when Pete was playing guitar in Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra. When Maura replaced Iris DeMent as a harmony singer on a Griffith tour, they found themselves in the same band, and opened shows for Griffith as a duo. The Kennedys hosted the late lamented Dharma Café program on Sirius satellite radio, and on Broadway, they are regular cast members of Theatre Within’s annual tribute to John Lennon – working in that capacity with Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, Jackson Browne, Cyndi Lauper and a host of others.
Multi-instrumentalists known for their harmonies and blend of folk, rock, bluegrass, country and pop, The Kennedys have written uplifting, evocative original tunes, and have put their imprint on a broad range of covers. They sing about love, loss, trust, caretaking, the environment and social consciousness. “The operative word for us when we write lyrics is ‘compassion,’” said Pete Kennedy. “We do believe that music can heal and, as songwriters, we feel a responsibility to use the craft to lift spirits and encourage. There are certainly other schools of artistic thought, but that’s the one we practice.” The pair mix passionate songwriting with a flair for entertainment and a repertoire of classic songs. Think of a song by Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers or the Beatles, and that smile on your face is the same smile you’ll be wearing when The Kennedys hit the stage.

Hello fello Music Fans
We drove from Savannah GA to see the Kennedys in person for the first time
We went with daughters family, and brothers family to a small venue-Live at Teds
Maura and Pete Kennedy were beyond all expextaions.
Pete is the most amazing guitarist/ musician I have ever witnessed in person.
Maura, song writer, guitar player/singer is better in person than even her videos.
Their original music is exceptional. The cover songs wonderfully done!
After a susbstanial career- their newest music album is one of their best.
We will travel to see them again whenever reasonable.
Maura and Pete
Thank you for a wonderful evening

The Kennedys Biography
“I arrived at The Kennedys show in the foulest of moods….Two hours later, I didn’t want to be anywhere else….I could not have found a better antidote.” - Jim Daniels, Elmore Magazine, November 2016
In a career that now spans two decades, New York duo Maura and Pete Kennedy have traversed a broad musical landscape, surveying power pop, acoustic songwriting, organic rock rooted in their early days in Austin, and a Byrds-inspired jangle that drew the attention of McGuinn, Steve Earle, and most notably Nanci Griffith. The duo co-produced Nanci’s latest CD, and are currently touring the US and the British Isles with the Texas songstress.
