Matthew Lee and the Standbys Biography
I'm Matthew Lee, and this is my passion project. Matthew Lee and the Standbys started out as a yearly cabaret; turning rock songs into theatrical pieces while putting a hard rock spin on musical theatre favorites. Eventually, Matthew decided to take the best work of the last few years and record the album Another Round - which leads to where we are now.
Originally from Indianapolis, I've been anchored in NYC for the better part of the last decade hammering away at my guitar, my piano, and whatever instrument I can get my grubby hands on. I've always wanted to find a way to fuse my love of classical music, contemporary musical theatre, and rock music; wanted to make the ideas of each of these genres accessible to its respective opposite audiences.
The band itself is composed of some of my favorite dudes in New York City. We strive to create an eccentric yet cohesive blend of all different styles of rock - we've been described as a crossbreed between jangly fun Ludo and ever-pressing-forward Foo Fighters.
