About this concert
Experience the modern bluesy vibe with classical, jazzy, and grungy elements. $10 Advance $15 at Door Kirky TG & Sinkin’ Down (KTG&SD) is a Roots Blues and Jazz Trio band inspired by diverse urban electric and delta blues genres, alongside jazz, grunge, classical, and hip-hop influences. Merging classical compositions and early American vocal styles with contemporary electric instrumentation crafts a cathartic, post-modern musical journey. This blend captivates and leaves the audience craving further exploration. Kirky is a guitar tech and assembles and wires custom guitars. His primary guitar and audience favorite, ‘Discovery,’ is his latest natural-finish Warmoth strat build, with a bubinga neck and black korina chambered body that incorporates the tone and playability preferences he’s developed in two-plus decades of experimentation. TG is a user of Roland/BOSS, Warmoth, Seymour Duncan, and Elixir gear. Being an expressive singer, guitarist, and composer, Kirky has thirty years of musical experience. This experience includes training with Cadillac Zack, college education, and jazz studies. TG plays nationwide, having performed alongside Teddy Lee Hooker, Jeff Chaz, and other talented artists. Jeff Chaz, an award-winning original stylist and mentor, once advised him, “When you play the Blues, don’t hold back!” — TG holds this directive dear. He is passionate about supporting the Blues community and is President of the Houston Blues Society (HBS). TG also contributed to the San Diego and Austin Blues Societies and was a founding Inland Empire Music Society member. The band’s debut album, released on October 14th, 2023, reached 12th on the Roots Music Report: Top 50 Texas Albums Chart, is continuing to gain traction, and they are touring in support of the album. The album presents immersive and organic tones that hold the integrity of live performance spontaneity through blues standards and original material. Meet the Band: A Houston native, Todd discovered a passion for drumming at 12. He earned an A.A. with honors in General Music at San Jacinto Community College and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Music Performance with Jazz Concentration from Texas State University. His mentor was the legendary drummer Butch Miles who worked with Basie, Brubeck, Sinatra, and more. Todd has performed in masterclasses with John Riley, "Tootie" Heath, Eddie Gomez, and José Aponte. He teaches at Vivaldi Music Academy, participates in session work, and performs with various groups, including the Kirky TG Trio. Zia is a multidisciplinary artist who thrives in the lower frequencies. She started on clarinet, standard and bass, in grade school marching band, performed with choir, studied theory, later taking up keys and electric string bass. She is a music composer and producer, with four published original albums to her credit, and accepted to Academy of Art: Master of Arts in Music Scoring and Composition. Zia is a student of the principles of art and design and how they converge in music. She earned a BFA from Academy of Art University, and is an Inductee of National Technical Honors Society and Kappa Pi Art Honors Society. Zia is currently enrolled at Berklee College of Music for a Master of Arts in Music Business.
