Introducing Jason and The Jazzerknots, a dynamic ensemble born out of a passion for crafting original jazz compositions that captivate audiences across the spectrum. Spearheaded by guitarist and composer, Jason Goessl, this quartet brings a fresh perspective to the jazz scene, with each member contributing their unique flair.

At the core of the group are Jason Goessl, the mastermind behind the guitar wizardry, Josh Gallagher on piano, Jeremy Boettcher on upright bass, and the rhythmic pulse provided by Mike Malone on drums.

Rooted in the rich traditions of jazz rhythm sections, spanning from the iconic Big Band Era to the contemporary, Jason and The Jazzerknots infuse their music with a distinctive touch. Jason Goessl's guitar work, reminiscent of a horn's melodic nuances, adds a unique layer to their sonic tapestry.

"The Shakedown," their debut album, is a testament to the Jazzerknots' versatility and skill, featuring all-original compositions by Jason Goessl. From contemplative and emotive pieces to the exuberance of swinging rhythms, the album showcases the band's wide-ranging appeal. Brace yourselves for their sophomore release, an album comprising eight original tracks slated for April 2024.

Guitar styles and fads come and go, but, like wardrobes, certain things remain classic and timeless. Like a navy blue sport jacket, guitarist Jason Goessl and his Jazzerknots Josh Gallagher/p, Jeremy Boettcher/b and Mike Malone serve up small group jazz that fits any occasion and environment. Even better, the tunes are all originals, so while there is definite inspiration, there is no imitation. Goessl himself has a style and tone that carries the torch from the early days of Lang. There’s a dash of Les Paul and Chet Aktins in his swinging around Malone’s brushes on the nifty title tune while riding the tube like a longboarder over the cymbals on the snappy “Big Chart”. Goessl also has imbibed the tasty note selection of Oscar Moor, giving slinky chords to “Black Cars and Taco Bars” and strutting the blues out on “Steppin’ On The Ave”. The band takes a Wes Montgomery groove to the four on sixish “Harper Dance” while Gallagher goes Monk to the guitarist’s Wes on the clever “Don’t Crack Jack”, with some hip bass work by Boettcher to boot. Malone’s brushes are as deft as an umpire working the plate on the soft shoe of a Latinized “Can’t Get It Outta My Head” and the team gets into a funky 70s mood with Goessl wacka-wookaing to the backbeat of “Jazz Camp”. Jason Goessl
Jason Goessl is a seasoned guitarist, whose musical journey began in Maribel, Wisconsin. Transitioning to a professional career in St. Paul, Minnesota, he honed his craft before making a significant impact in Seattle's dynamic music scene. With a penchant for diverse genres ranging from surf to western, Brazilian to avant-garde, and jazz to metal, Jason established himself as a prominent figure. Now based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Jason manages Sun Goose Records and performs in various musical projects. Renowned for his captivating performances, Jason continues to inspire audiences statewide and on national tours with his remarkable talent and unwavering passion for music.

Mike Malone
Hailing from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Mike Malone is a versatile performer and dedicated educator. His musical journey began at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he delved into classical and jazz percussion. In 2013, Mike's talents caught the attention of The Glenn Miller Orchestra, leading to an invitation to tour extensively across North America. Returning to UWEC in 2014 to complete his degree, Mike embarked on a series of tours with notable groups such as jazz vocalist Ray Brown Jr. and the vocal jazz ensemble Five By Design. With a prolific recording career, Mike has left his mark on numerous albums, showcasing his skills as both a supporting musician and a leader. His debut album, "Overalls & Airplanes," was released in 2013. Mike's exceptional versatility has allowed him to thrive in various musical genres and settings, earning him the prestigious title of "Drummer Of The Year" at the 2021 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Awards. Currently, he maintains a busy performance schedule while managing a private teaching studio that caters to students of all ages and experience levels. Mike proudly serves as a performing artist for Bosphorus Cymbals, further solidifying his place in the music industry.

Jeremy Boettcher
Renowned bassist Jeremy Boetcher swiftly rose to prominence, captivating audiences nationwide with his remarkable versatility and musical prowess. In recent years, he has graced the global stage, touring extensively with icons like Sean Carey and Richard Johnson. Notably, his exceptional talents have been showcased in prestigious venues such as Jazz At Lincoln Center Doha and Jazz At Lincoln Center Shanghai.

Josh Gallagher
Born into a musically inclined family in Eau Claire, WI, Josh Gallagher exhibited an early affinity for music. Commencing classical piano studies at the age of 4, he delved into jazz at 7 and commenced his professional journey at a remarkable age of 11. Throughout his high school years, his joy found its peak in performing with the school jazz ensemble, collaborating with his father's big band and schoolmates, and attending summer jazz camps. With a full scholarship, Gallagher pursued studies at Berklee College of Music, studying under luminaries like Joanne Brackeen, Hal Crook, Greg Hopkins, Phil Wilson, Joe Lovano, and more. Interrupting his Berklee stint during the 2004-2005 academic year, he secured the piano spot in the Brubeck Institute Fellowship Program in Stockton, CA. Immersed in performance and learning, he and fellow Institute members had the privilege of studying under luminaries like Christian McBride and a roster of acclaimed clinicians. Returning to Berklee, Gallagher earned a performance degree in 2007. Shortly after graduating, he embarked on a 5-month cruise ship contract as the pianist in the Marquez Jazz Trio. In late 2008, he ventured to New York City, where he spent a year actively participating in jazz jam sessions and securing gigs. Subsequently, he returned to Eau Claire, his current residence. Alongside his involvement in the local jazz scene, Gallagher has served as a church organist since 2010, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of his musical journey."
