About this concert
Live Music Spring Indie Folk Night at LIVE! on Elgin Featuring Eric Montpool, Loch Nisse Monster, & Liam S. Russel Eric Montpool: Eric Montpool is a guitarist, singer & songwriter based in Ottawa. Since 2022, Eric has made his mark on the scene as the frontman of Noise Hotel - Ottawa's favourite velvet-clad indie rockers - and has recently emerged as a solo artist to highlight a different side of his sound. As a solo artist, Eric draws inspiration from his folkie heroes Joni Mitchell & Gordon Lightfoot, singing heartfelt acoustic songs, but still retains his rock roots when playing upbeat and electrified jams with his bandmates. Whether you're seeing home on the stage with Noise Hotel, playing guitar for Ottawa acts like Hannah Vig, or on his acoustic guitar at a solo set, Eric Montpool is sure to entertain. Loch Nisse Monster: Loch Nisse Monster originated from the swamps of an Ottawa 70's-themed house party, where in a drunken haze the singer-songwriter was told that her name sounded like the famous monster of Loch Ness. Nisse brings the folky vibe of this mysterious fantastical creature to her songwriting, telling stories and painting joyous and painful emotions. Along with musical inspiration from the genres of rock, pop, and punk, the "monster" in Loch Nisse Monster doesn't hesitate to get at ironic and unjust truths in the world around, yet with the hope of tales. Liam S. Russell: Liam S. Russell is a songwriter based in Ottawa, Ontario. He writes lyrics exploring characters and stories based on Canadian small town lives. Liam is in his third year at Carleton, where he is expanding his songwriting craft with Kalle Mattson, a Juno and Polaris nominated songwriter. His influences include but are not limited to Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, Jeff Tweedy, John K. Samson, Tom Waits, Christian Lee Hutson and Elliott Smith.
