These “sessions” programmes are a great idea to get solid local backing for events they might not otherwise consider. The venue was good in terms of the performance hall, with a combination of raked seating and cabaret style at the front of the room. The rest of the venue was perhaps a little cramped.
But we were there for India Electric Co., who excelled as always. By this sixth show of their current tour they have got nicely into the groove of their setlist and they combine great professionalism musically with a comfortable level of interaction with the audience. The set is a carefully crafted mix of tracks from the new album “Pomegranate”, perennial fan favourites from the previous studio recordings and a couple of popular covers. Cole Stacey’s unique vocal sound is very strong on this tour and combines brilliantly with the genius musicianship of bandmate Joseph O’Keefe and recently added drummer Russell Field. I’ve seen the band well over 100 times and never heard anyone come away disappointed.
