Postcards Biography

Led by lyricist, singer and guitarist Julia Sabra, Postcards is a dream pop/ shoegaze band hailing from Beirut, Lebanon. Working together with Pascal Semerdjian (drums, samplers and backing vocals) and Marwan Tohme (guitar, bass, and backing vocals) for more than a decade, the band is today Lebanon’s longest-lasting alternative musical group since its formation in 2012, and they have been regularly touring Europe and the Middle East since 2015.

With four concept albums and three EPs under their belt, the trio has produced a diverse catalog ranging from their signature dream pop and shoegaze to post-punk and noise. They are currently working on their 5th album, to be released by 2025.

Postcards has worked through periods of social strife and political violence in Lebanon, which Julia Sabra, the lyricist of the band, has approached through themes of alienation, melancholy, and resistance. Working closely with their longtime collaborator Lebanese sound engineer, musician and producer Fadi Tabbal, they managed to reflect life in Beirut for their post-war generation, through textured soundscapes and raw intensity in their music, helmed by Sabra’s poignant words and graceful voice.

Postcards are firmly rooted in their native Lebanon, as all three members of the band are active in Beirut’s vibrant music scene, and were active members of various local projects throughout the years, most recently post-folk outfit Sanam and ambient/industrial duo Snakeskin.
