HUSH CLUB: "Alasdair MacKenzie, Chris Haley, and Liz Kantor formed Hush Club after finding each other in college. Now, they are based in Somerville, MA, making lush, melodic, and propulsive indie rock that examines the nuances of our shared human experience. Under the Radar describes Hush Club as “explor[ing] spaces ranging from intimate to celestial, evoking honest confessions and wide expanses.” Their latest single, “The Moon,” is a catchy heartbreak anthem for anyone who’s ever been ghosted. In 2024, Hush Club sold out a headlining show at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall (500 capacity). The band has been featured twice in The Boston Globe and been nominated twice for the Boston Music Awards (Album/EP of the Year and Folk Artist of the Year). Hush Club has opened for national and international touring acts including Will Leet, French Cassettes, Hermitage Green, Michael Seyer, and Wabie, and the band’s debut album Fingerprints & Stains was praised by Glide Magazine, Vanyaland, and Boston Hassle, in addition to the Under the Radar writeup quoted above. Fingerprints & Stains also received extensive airplay on college radio, charting as the #5 debut on the NACC 200 in its first week and staying on the chart for three weeks." Darksoft is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer who creates dreamy indie rock sounds. Darksoft songs blend shoegaze and dream pop elements, using lush melodic progressions, 80s/90s alternative rock undertones, and deftly executed vocals. Darksoft is a solo recording project sometimes supported by a full band for live shows. To date, Darksoft has released several conceptual albums. His most recent, Grayscale (2023), was released by Spirit Goth records. His previous record, Beigeification (2023), is a postmodern dose of surfy sounds and beigey moods. Beigeification was #1 for radio station adds on NACC (1/17), got the #1 debut in its debut week (1/24), and reached #9 on the NACC Top 200 chart. Beigeification was released by Look Up Records with tapes printed by 2060 Records. In 2023, Darksoft toured the west coast and the northeast US. Cryo (2022) also received national radio attention, charting on both NACC and Sub-Modern Charts. 'Looking Backward' was added to Spotify's Indie Fresh Finds editorial playlist. Also in 2022, Darksoft toured the Pacific Northwest and New England. His previous records, Meltdown (2020) and Brain (2018), are in constant limbo between digital futurism and watery introspection, communicated through the language of computer viruses, algorithms, and human emotion, pure enough to pass the Turing Test. Darksoft is originally from Seattle, where he participated in the local music scene for years. In 2021 he moved his family to Portland, Maine. Besides producing Darksoft, he has produced music under several other monickers. Darksoft also tries to support other musicians too. He manages Look Up Records, a small independent music label and blog. Midnight Breakfast: Midnight Breakfast is an indie-soul sextet from the state of Maine. Current members include Jennifer Shevlin-Fernandes, Reggie Kollman, Loren Pinkham, Benjamin Flanagan, Evan Dickson, and Myles Kelley. Initially covering pop standards and funk tunes, they recorded their self-titled debut album Midnight Breakfast during quarantine and released it in January 2021. Midnight Breakfast blends groovy melodies, kaleidoscopic improvisation, and blissfully jazz-kissed vocals while exploring themes of love, self-discovery, and the universal search for meaning.
