About this concert
The Berlin-based Dublin native, known for her versatile style spanning soul, jazz, rhythm & blues and opera, embarks on an album tour of intimate venues across Germany. Accompanied by Berlin-based musicians, she will perform stripped-back arrangements of tracks from her debut album 'January Skies', which include Jazz FM UK's 'Breakfast Track of the Week' 'My Mama Told Me' and songs from her EP Melodramas. She will also present some classics that have influenced her own writing and new, soon-to-be-recorded original material. Drawing inspiration from 60s/70s songwriting and 90s trip-hop, the album, co-written with Australian film composer Michael Edwards ( Game of Thrones Soundtrack), explores themes of purpose, patriarchy, rites of passage, lost faith, fate, missed opportunities, and fantasy versus reality. A seasoned opera performer, she has sung solo at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Michelle Daly Music Biography

The Berlin-based, Irish vocalist's versatility ranges from soul, jazz, rhythm & blues to opera and her style is inspired by artists of a time past. 'January Skies', Daly's debut album was recently featured in 'The Irish Times Best Albums and Gigs of 2022' shortlist and celebrated its Bandcamp release in 2022. The album is the result of a successful grassroots crowdfunding campaign and was recorded at Jazzanova Recording Studio, Berlin. It was produced and arranged by Charis Karantzas and is a collaboration with her long-time writing partner, Australian composer, Michael Edwards - whose credits include Morcheeba and the Game of Thrones Soundtrack. This partnership makes up the greater part of the album tracks, while others such as 'In My Dreams' (co-written with Michael Parle) were written by Daly while London-based. Previous single releases include the bitter-sweet album title track, 'January Skies' and the cinematic and trip-hop infused 'In My Dreams'.
'Missed Chances', the 3rd release from the album, is a 60's soul-inspired track and since its release in December 2021, it has been added the to RTE RADIO ONE Recommended playlist. The Dublin- born artist's writing style is inspired by the songwriting stalwarts of the 60s and 70s. The album shows the artist drawing on experiences with finding purpose, patriarchy, rites of passage, lost faith, fate, missed opportunities and fantasy versus reality.
Her debut recording, Melodramas EP (2014), together with recent singles, has been featured on Jazz Radio Berlin/Europa. She has performed sold-out dates at The Orange Room, Berlin (Jazz Radio Berlin) and the National Concert Hall, Dublin. A regular performer on the opera stage, Michelle has sung as a soloist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Other collaborations include guest vocals on the critically acclaimed ‘These New Puritans’ album ‘Inside the Rose’. Michelle is currently working on a collection of covers. The first, recorded remotely during the lockdown, is a collaboration with musicians based in Dublin, Paris & Berlin. This offering will be a cover of Massive Attack’s trip-hop classic ‘Unfinished Sympathy’.

Michelle is planning a promotional tour for the album with dates in Ireland and Germany.
