The Guitarslinger Biography

Sonny Garcia was born in The Bronx New York, 1965, but lived in Queens till the age of 13 before his family relocated to the countryside in upstate NY. His upbringing was drowned in diverse sea of music ranging from 50's doo wop, Motown, 70's pop, classic rock of Grand Funk, the Stones, and the Beatles. The Latin persuasions of Santana, Tito Puente, and so on. Then it was on to the discoveries of hard rock and metal, and being influenced by Kiss, Foghat, Blackfoot, AC/DC, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and so on. Began playing guitar at age 13, and was completely self taught, learning by ear. Learning how to sing while driving his car, obsessing and practicing until he got it right. Realizing early on, that a good song was more important than showing off a great solo, he threw himself into songwriting. Eventually he placed in the top ten songs in the annual Billboard songwriting contest, won a best song award from rock station WBAB on Long Island, and toured most of the country playing in various original bands, Kiss tribute acts, and opening for National acts such as Blue Oyster Cult, Warrant, Quiet Riot, The Outlaws, and many more. His music has been used in various radio commercials and he has even written a few jingles. Recently, his song Mountain Man was chosen to be featured in an independent film which came out in 2013. The last project was his own band, Swamp Lords, but after the death of his childhood friend and lifelong bass player, he decided to just throw himself into writing/recording, and doing his one man band cover project known as The Guitarslinger. The Guitarslinger
plays a wide variety of genres of dance/party music, and has been playing all over the Southwest at clubs, music festivals, town events, bars, private parties, casinos, various fundraisers, and just recently performed the National Anthem on guitar at South Point Casino in Vegas for The Ariat World Series of Team Roping.
