Drifter Biography

Guitars, Auxiliary Percussion - Brodie Belt (WARD, MIGRATOR, and best friend of Santos from OLD MAN GLOOM)

Bass, Vocals, Junk Rig - Dean Edington (WRATH AND RUIN, EYES OF IOLITE, and best friend to anyone on show days needing a guest list spot)

Drums - Joel Denton (also has friends)

The DRIFTER concept began as a repository for guitarist Brodie Belt's cache of songwriting that fit outside the form of his prior outfit WARD (originally SYBASSION) with some compositions dating back as far as 2009. Over time, Belt worked through many of these ideas with a handful of musicians (including current members) at varying points before solidifying with Edington and Denton in early 2020 in Lawrence, KS.

This core lineup began with Belt playing a hybrid guitar-bass rig and auxiliary floor tom with Denton on drums and Edington on vocals, eventually adding the Junk Rig (keys, samples, noise and electronic drums), paring down the hybrid setup for separate bass and adding even more aux drums.

The quiet of quarantine led to a year and a half of jamming that produced a fairly massive backlog of songs and ideas before shows began to return and the band struck out in earnest with a live debut in September of 2021.

Currently, DRIFTER is juggling a slate of local and regional shows in support of their latest EP "HERALD" while finishing up two recordings, MATTARA and GRIGORI with plans to hit the road for a small Midwest tour this summer.

"rife with heady noise and thundering venom...past big riff sludge and instead...slowly-building and fiercely erupting post-metal in the immersive style of Neurosis. Dark, eerie, beautiful." - TooMuchRock.com
