Wrongbird Biography

CACAW... Wrongbird is the world's premiere (and only) wrong-rock band from Austin, TX defined by their witty, chaotic, and sincere songwriting.

Having spent most of his life as solo artist at open mics in the Chicago suburbs, frontman Eric Baker left his Midwestern roots in favor of the Austin live music scene with his first full length album in hand. Epitome of the Opposite was put out under the pen name Wrongbird Erickson in Fall 2016 and displayed a knack for wordplay and 60's musical influences. Concurrently, producer and guitarist Michael Blake was working as an independent producer and songwriter in Austin. Baker and Blake met at The Mohawk in Austin's Red River cultural district in January of 2018 and quickly realized their shared musical instincts. This led to what would become the EP, Who Is Wrongbird? Dropping the 'Erickson' in favor of a simple Wrongbird, this EP was a bold shift dynamically from solo artist to a collaboration.

Over his time in Austin, Baker has also played keys with bands such as Tomar and the FCs and Shinyribs, but always maintained his first love of songwriting. Baker and Blake are back in 2023 after spending with the pandemic recording singles full of the musical variety they are known for. From Mr. April, the contagious homemade indie-pop anthem, to Western Hero's theatrical explosion of strings, roaring guitars, punchy drums, and irreverent lyrics, the bird is putting out some of their best received tunes yet with even more on the way.
