About this concert
QXT's proudly presents a spectacular show on an unique date: February 29th MONO NO AWARE w/ Cervello Elettronico & Moment of Terror Doors @ 8PM 21+ w/proper ID $15 adv // $20 @ door Kitchen open all night Parking on/off streets Mono No Aware (power noise/industrial project based in Germany) emerged at the end of 1995 from the creative nucleus of Kaanbalik as an opportunity for the only permanent member Leif Künzel to freely explore new paths with electronic sounds. Although a tape with the title "Veitstanz und Zuckungen" was distributed among friends at the beginning of 1996, it was more about experimenting itself and so it took 3-4 years in which the idea for Mono no Aware could mature. In 1999, the first live performance and the support of long-time musical partner Stefan Böhm marked the beginning of a new phase for Mono no Aware. A year later, the opportunity arose to release a CD on Hands Productions, which was released in 2000 as "Kitanai Yatsu". The collaboration with Stefan Böhm extended to two more releases until the end of 2002. Leif toured the US in 2005, has performed at Maschinenfest, and is still very active playing festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen and Forms of HANDS. A total of 11 releases have been released to date, all from Hands Productions. The most recent, the new album "Koritsu" saw the light of day in April 2023 with new tracks included in upcoming Mono no Aware live shows. Cervello Elettronico is the "electric brain" child of Los Angeles based industrial techno producer David Christian, who has made himself a name with numerous live performances in North America and Europe at festivals like Maschinenfest, Forms of HANDS, Schlagstrom, and Elektroanschlag. The project's inception in 2001 contributed to a new underground industrial scene brewing in the New York City area. Several demos and self released EPs were sold and openly distributed throughout the internet before the act landed it's first live show supporting Metropolis Recording artist Terrorfakt in the spring of 2004 at NYC's legendary Albion Batcave night and was subsequently signed to an independent underground industrial label that is now defunct. Since then Cervello Elettronico has relocated to Los Angeles, released several highly praised industrial techno crossover releases (Anima Meccanica,Logical Fears) on German experimental label HANDS, playing unique performance spaces all over the world opening for such well established acts as Meat Beat Manifesto, Black Lung, and Lenny Dee at venues such as The Avalon in Los Angeles, Slimelight(Elektrowerkz) in London, Sydney, Montreal, Mexico City, Leipzig, and Berlin. He held a monthly DJ residence in DTLA at The Lash(a legendary alternative space) and remains active in the LA underground. Moment of Terror (Slavic Spirit) is a Kyiv born and NY based DJ. He cultivates a sound composed of the darker and dirtier side of EBM and industrial. Slavic Spirit is a resident at Gio Black Peter’s anything goes dungeon parties and organizes Body to Body and 260. He is co-founder of New York based record label and events collective Regression Records. He is also the creator and manager of Produkt Podcast, which has featured industrial and hard techno artists from around the world for over two years. Cervello Elettronico Biography

“Electronic Brain” is the brainchild of Los Angeles based producer David Christian, who has made himself a name with numerous live shows in North America and Europe at important festivals like Maschinenfest, Schlagstrom (Berlin), Wave Gotik Treffen, Slimelight(UK), Planet Myer Day, and Storm Party(NL). The prolific musician has produced remixes for the likes of KMFDM, Leæther Strip, Wumpscut, and Terrorfakt on labels Industrial Strength, Metropolis, Dependent, and Alfa Matrix. There have also been well-received releases on HANDS Productions and Rustblade.

Cervello Elettronico puts out his second album for HANDS, and it is surely branded by fears – logical or not – pursuing a darker and more aggressive direction than ever before. What remains is the crisp production and remarkable variation in beats and sounds, and yet this appears direct and almost simple, dominated by a tidal wave of bass heavy industrial beats, coming on with the force of a freight train. The brain controls the motor function; the electronic brain dissects that anatomy of movement with “Logical Fears”. Whether for an underground techno or a rhythm-geared industrial set, Cervello Elettronico provides quite some tasty club food!

David Christian’s 2013 HANDS album “Anima Meccanica” went down well with its coherent take at various influences from rhythmic noise to dub techno and IDM and spawned not only the DJ-friendly remix EP for HANDS, but also remixes by and collaborations with the likes of Swayzak and Blush Response followed. It’s not a far route from there to a more physical sound, and here you go: Big midtempo beats on “Logical Fears” and “Tone Deaf”, dry and repetitive force on “Black Matter”, “Choose Right” and “Retracted Statements”, evil distortion on “Divider” and “Memory Loss”, a tribal polyrhythm on “Stand your Ground”. All the time, there are melodic undercurrents buried deep within the tracks, but it’s only in “Spacial Differences” that they’re allowed to blossom in full, making this the most distinctly techno track of the album.
Staying clear of the 50-minute mark, “Logical Fears” feels perfectly concise, focused on the essentials. Fears are elementary, and so is this album!
