For some, world-wide touring and critically acclaimed albums would be satisfaction enough. Not for YolanDa Brown, she wears many hats, musician, broadcaster, author and wears them well… with passion and full of vigour. London Born YolanDa is a double MOBO Award winning artist, her music a delicious fusion of reggae, jazz, and soul. She has toured with The Temptations, Diana Krall, Billy Ocean and collaborated across genres with Dave Stewart from Eurythmics, Snarky Puppy’s Bill Laurance, Omar, Julian Marley, Keyon Harrold, Jon Cleary, Kelly Jones from Stereophonics and Rick Astley. She is currently composing music for the iconic “Sesame Street,” animated series called “Bea’s Block” on HBO Max, as well as the Netflix Series “CocoMelon Lane.” YolanDa was awarded an OBE for services to music, music education and broadcasting in the 2023 New Year Honours List by his Majesty the King. In July 2022, YolanDa was appointed Chair of BPI (BRIT Awards, Mercury Prize). A champion for the importance of music education, YolanDa is Chair of Youth Music, sits on the Arts Council National Council and she is on the advisory board of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. A broadcaster, her eponymous series for CBeebies, "YolanDa’s Band Jam", won the RTSNW award as Best Children’s Programme. For the BBC Proms she hosted the Ella and Dizzy Centenary, BBC Gospel Choir of the Year and Young Jazz Musician of the year. She has interviewed musicians such as Gregory Porter, Joe Lovano and Avery Sunshine.On radio, she hosts YolanDa Brown on Saturday on Jazz FM, presents the best of classical music on Scala Radio on Sundays, and can be heard across BBC Radio 2 and Magic FM. An entrepreneur too, YolanDa launched the London Saxophone Festival in 2018, and is about to launch her own music venue and restaurant, Soul Mama, in 2024. YolanDa loves to drive fast cars around racetracks in her spare time and can even rattle off a Rubik’s Cube in around five minutes (on a good day). A real renaissance woman set to reach new heights. Absolutely fantastic, so much talent and a fantastic selection of tunes. I loved the Ernest Ranglin covers! Beautiful venue, intimate setting which gave the show a personal feeling, almost like being in your living room. The food was also delicious and very well priced, all in all a great night out.

YolanDa Brown Biography

For some, world-wide touring and critically acclaimed albums would be satisfaction enough.

Not for YolanDa Brown who has garnered praise for her delicious fusion of reggae, jazz and soul.

YolanDa has worked with The Temptations, Diana Krall, Billy Ocean and features Jools Holland’s new album.

She is currently composing music for the iconic Sesame Street and an animated series called Bea's Block due for release in 2023.

A champion for the importance of music education, YolanDa is chair of Youth Music (one of the largest music education charities in the UK) and an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and London Music Fund. She graduated with a first class degree in Operations management from the University of Kent, followed by 2 Masters Degrees and studied a PhD for four years, before taking a hiatus from her thesis to pursue her music career. Brown was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts by the University of East London.

In 2021, she was invited by the Government and Department for Education to sit on the advisory board of the National Plan for Music Education.

A broadcaster too - working across TV and Radio, including her eponymous series for CBeebies, "YolanDa’s Band Jam", which recently won the Royal Television Society Awards as Best Children’s Programme. On BBC Radio 4, she co presents Loose Ends with Clive Anderson and covers for Trevor Nelson and Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio 2 and presents “YolanDa Brown on Saturday” on Jazz FM.

YolanDa loves to drive fast cars around race tracks in her spare time and can even rattle off a Rubik’s Cube in around five minutes (on a good day).
