About this concert
In the two years that have passed since the release of Joe Mungovan’s debut album A Flower In The Weeds, the performer has been touring consistently around Australia, spreading the energy of his dynamic and striking performance talent to audiences full of new and long-time fans alike. In that time, he has become one of the East Coast’s exciting new voices, bringing together a natural musicality with a defined storytelling tone. And in pouring inspiration found across these last few years into new sessions, Joe Mungovan has now found himself at the doorstep of a brand new phase: the release of his second studio record, SUGAR, CANDY, LIPS. Recorded between his own studio on the NSW South Coast, and at the iconic Grove Studios, the album is a beautiful representation of Joe Mungovan’s creativity and artistry as he heads into a brand new year and chapter as a musician. Featuring previously released tracks including ‘Handmidowns’, ‘STAY’, ‘Mon Chéri’ and latest single, ‘Cyclone’, SUGAR, CANDY, LIPS weaves through different sounds with confidence and ease. Along with Mungovan’s natural cadence and flow as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, there are threads of melodies and builds that fans of artists like Unknown Mortal Orchestra will love. To celebrate its release, Joe will return to stages down the East Coast of Australia in April, with the SUGAR, CANDY, LIPS album tour. “We knew (the band and I) that we couldn’t wait to get these songs in front of a crowd as soon as we were recording them – they’ve got big, electric energy that screams for a live audience to get amongst it and have a boogie. We’re stoked to return to some old haunts on this East Coast line up, and play some new venues too. The boys in the band absolutely kill it and while this is our most ambitious headline tour yet, and we are itching to get on the road and bring the show to a city near you.” JOE MUNGOVAN

Joe Mungovan Biography

At the age of nine, a young Joe Mungovan would never have imagined that begging his parents “for a drum kit for Christmas” would pave his way onto some of the most prestigious stages in Australia. The now singer/songwriter, crashed his skateboard at the age of 13, leaving him unable to play his drumkit and in a wheelchair for 4 months. Joe taught himself guitar and unconsciously developed a style that blends indie rock and pop together to produce his unique style. With attention to articulate lyrics, catchy melodies and rhythmic detail, Joe’s songs express his genuine emotion. His authenticity and passion is conveyed in his intimate live show, and is an experience not worth missing.

Throughout his career, Joe Mungovan has consistently constructed melodies that expand from traditional pop and rock songwriting structures. His songs have been played across Triple j, Double j and community radio, video support across Rage and MTV and press praise in Rolling Stone, Pilerats, Music Feeds, Au Review, The Music to name a few. Mungovan’s songwriting has also seen him nominated for an APRA Award and Golden Guitar Award in 2021, and a Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition.
