About this concert
For the third iteration of the Haptic Drift series at Theaterlab, Testu Collective has created a physical, action-based score. Eternal Oyster’s movement will activate the graphic sculpture as musicians Matt Evans, MA, Testu, and Santos interpret it through experimental sound techniques, voice, and amplified sound objects. Testu Collective will be drawing on concepts from Fluxus graphic and performance scores which were created to leave interpretations open to the performers. “Fluxus is an attitude, a “way of doing things” with the desire to eliminate traditional boundaries between artistic disciplines, between artist and audience, and between art and life itself, in order to dissolve art in the flow of existence.” – Anna Cestelli Guidi

Maria Takeuchi Biography

Maria Takeuchi aka ÉMU is a multi-instrumental music producer and audio+visual artist based in Brooklyn from Japan. Her synesthetic composition appeals to other senses beyond hearing, expresses philosophy and emotion inspired by nature, nostalgia, and friction in abstract, as if to paint on canvas by colored sound. Her sound is easily “visualized” by listeners.

Maria co-directed and composed sound for an experimental film "as·phyx·i·a" with Frederico Phillips. "as·phyx·i·a" was selected to New Directors Shortlist by Saatchi & Saatchi, showcased at Cannes Lions and MoMA. It appeared on nearly 200 international mediums including BBC, TIME, Washinton post, and Microsoft commecial.

She released 1st album “Doppelgänger” in 2012. Her minimal compositions show merging the contrast between analog and digital, harmony and disharmony with a refined avant-garde touch. ‘Grey Water’ was created for the exhibition “INDEPENSENSE” by Giuseppe Mastromatteo, and other tracks were created for Project "O" The 2nd album “NEUTRALISM” focuses on the depth of audio and creates an experimental imaginable journey.

At the appearance of Sled Island music festival held in Calgary, Canada, she performed with Actress (Ninja Tune) in 2017 and Grouper (Kranky) in 2018.
