About this concert
MD Pallavi & Andi Otto present their latest album 'Songs for Broken Ships' in live concerts in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. MD Pallavi sings poems in her mother tongue Kannada, one of the many languages of India. They are performed over Andi's energetic cello playing with his self-made, sensor extended cello bow called Fello. The two first met ten years ago on a theatre stage in India. They immediately began working together and in 2016 MD Pallavi's hypnotic vocals for the downtempo raga Bangalore Whispers aimed straight for the heart of the international downtempo scene. Their musical collaboration deepened with artistic residencies in Bangalore and Hamburg, their respective hometowns, and a concert tour in Japan. The fruits of these artistic endeavours can be heard on the duo's debut album. Songs for Broken Ships was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. The live versions of the songs rely on improvisation with the ragas (Indian scales) on which they are based, so that the danceable studio productions shine on stage in new colours between jazz, techno and dub. MD Pallavi is a singer, actress, filmmaker and performer from Bangalore, South India, where she has been trained in Hindustani music and poetry performance since childhood and has built up a large following. Andi Otto is a Hamburg-based composer, cellist and DJ. He is known for his idiosyncratic and often unconventional dance music productions on labels such as Multi Culti, Shika Shika and Pingipung.
