David Young Biography

Trumpeter and songwriter David Young's brilliant sound, compositions and thrilling live performances have earned him the praise of critics and fans alike.

The Chicago Tribune says “only in live performance is it possible to fully perceive the young man's emotional maturity, charismatic manner and technical acuity. In contemporary classical repertoire, his playing often sounds more lyrical and emotionally charged than one might expect to hear; in jazz, he produces a surprisingly vast range of unusual colors, shades and half-shades.”

With roots in jazz, classical, popular and soul music, Young’s original compositions reach deep into the musical lexicon to intone melodies altogether familiar and new, exotic and accessible. This is reflected in his eclectic discography and diverse body of work.

David earned a Grammy nomination and RIAA gold certification for his work with Jack Harlow, Big Sean and has appeared on NPR’s tiny desk concert series with hip-hop lyricist Ab-Soul.
