60 East Biography
Joey ‘60 East’ Atilano found himself immersed into hip-hop culture at a young age. Introduced to the world of rap music by his older brother, it didn't take long for 60 East to pick up the mic at thirteen years old. Having grown inseparable with rap music throughout his adolescence, 60 captured an internship within the industry following his graduation from High School. Working at Universal City, an established record label at the time, he was constantly learning new insider tricks which he’d later come to apply to his own career. Beginning with his independent label, ‘First Dirt’, which he used as a platform for nationwide tours and music releases. The success of First Dirt earned performance slots on internationally renowned Festivals such as The Paid Dues Festival and the VANS Warped Tour. These events proved catalysts in affording 60 East even greater opportunities, such as touring with independent icons including Joell Ortiz and RA The Rugged Man. By 2014, 60 East had cemented himself as a regular on many influential, taste-making blogs such as 2DopeBoyz, ThisIs50 and Boi-1da. His list of accomplishments is continuously growing but he is particularly proud of being named "Best Hip Hop Artist" by IEWeekly Magazine and "Hottest Up and Coming Artist in the West Coast" by KRUSH Magazine. In 2015, 60 East also earned a slot on the A3C Festival and became Winner of DJ Booth and A3C's "This is my Year" contest, which has been host to some of hip-hop's most promising artists from around the world. Not one to rest on his laurels, 60 East shows no signs of slowing in 2016. Having already worked with artists like Blu, Skyzoo and Sly Boogy - a veteran of the Wake Up Show - he has crossed off a couple of bucket list collaborations. This year has also been marked by his emergence as an internationally recognised headline act. Performing at the 7th Annual Zabij Nude Festival in Poland and 15th Annual Hip Hop Kemp Festival. 2016 has seen 60 sharing stages with the likes Redman, EPMD, MGK & Anderson Paak, alongside others. As 2016 enters its latter stages, there's still plenty of time for 60 to round off a monumental year with even more milestones. With 2017 just around the corner, he's sure to have a few tricks up his sleeve. One thing is for certain, it's going to be an exciting journey for one of independent hip-hop’s future legends. - Lee Hawthorne Artist, Speaker, Podcast Host, Writer IG: @60East Twitter: @60East909 Contact: Info@sixtyeast.net www.SixtyEast.net
