Historically, difficult women have been outlawed and called witches. That's been the fate of ordinary women with extraordinary voices.
Women like singer/songwriter Áine Tyrrell and comedian Mandy Nolan.
Áine and Mandy stir the political pot, and along the way they spin a yarn, tell a joke and have a damn good time. They invite like minded women and allies to join them. This isn’t just a show, this is The Country Witches Association.
Country Witches Association is a call to action. Together, Aine and Mandy bring their craft to the stage so that dangerous dialogues and unexpected collaboration can come to the boil. It’s funny, it's deep, it's profound, it’s a celebration, it’s an honouring, it’s outrageous, it’s unexpected, it’s inclusive. It’s not like any show you will have been to!
This unique collab asks us to find the witch within. She’s closer than you think. Áine Tyrrell says ‘if you’re not doing something that you would have been burnt for 400 years ago then you’re not trying hard enough.’
The CWA – or Country Witches is a tongue in cheek re-imagining of the traditional CWA with full respect to this iconic Australian women’s organisation that has long pioneered the rights and equity of women and children. The Country Witches Association however is very different – it is an anarchic melting pot of politics, comedy and song - bringing disparate and dispossessed women together, to share in the camaraderie of conversations and inspiration using a show come meeting format, where the audience gets to set the agenda!
Mandy says: ‘As performers we get a bit tired of sticking to the rules, so the idea of the Country Witches is to unleash our more deviant selves. This is a creative space to navigate topics at a deeper level than you’d do in a traditional pub show format.’
So for women tired of waiting for permission to join the conversation, sick of judgement and expectation, of being tired, of violence, and oppression and nothing changing now’s the time to join the Country Witches!
To date, The Country Witches have sold out every show - proving that it touches a vein and women want in. And men too. Audience members joked ‘it was like a cross between a religious revival meeting, a political gathering, a comedy and music show.’ They created a secret handshake, sang their anthem, wrote an oath and planned upcoming actions for the greater group. Every show they invite a local woman Indigenous elder to perform the welcome and share the story of a woman missing from our history.
As touring solo artists The Country Witches only perform a few times a year…so every show could be their last! Don’t miss out.

Áine Tyrrell is an inspiring and thought-provoking multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and unmissable live act, she graces stages globally – from Woodford Folk Festival, to Shrewsbury Folk Festival in the UK to Clonakilty International Guitar Festival in Ireland, International Folk Alliance in the USA, and the coveted Splendour in the Grass.
In 2021, the significance of Áine’s impact was underscored when she was chosen to join the Irish President, Michael D Higgins, and his wife Sabine in a tribute celebrating the valour and artistry of Irish women. Áine's commitment to connecting with her audience is evident. Celebrating 290 Virtual Cuppa Teas (online performances) and fostering a thriving community in Patreon over the last 3 years.
She was rightfully acknowledged as one of the top 10 musical creators by The Australian Newspaper in 2021 and acclaim has followed her from both Australian and Irish radio circuits with notable features on ABC Radio, RTE Radio, Double J Radio, and BBC NI Music. Her chart-topping presence on Ireland’s RTE’s Independent Music Charts speaks volumes about her resonance in the musical landscape.
