Zea Mays taldea Bilbon sortu zen 1997 urteko ekainean. Asier Basabe (bateria), Ruben Gonzalez (bajoa), Iñaki Imaz (gitarra) eta Aiora Renteria (ahotsa) dira Zea Mays.

Zea Maysek hamaikatxo eszenatokitan eman ditu kontzertuak Euskal Herri osoan zehar. Espainiako hainbat hiriburutan ere ibiliak dira, baita Amsterdam, Liverpool, Berlin, Londres, Toronto, Tokio eta Nagoya bezalako hirietan.

Euskal Herrian hainbat hiri ta herritako jaietan kontzertu jendetsuak eman dituzte ta aretoak bete alde guztietatik. Horretaz gain hainbat festibal interesgarri ta garrantzitsutan parte hartu dute, besteak beste, Senglar rock 1998 (Tarragona), ADM Festival 2000 (Amsterdam), Festimad 2004 (Madril), Fight for Rights 2009 (Tokio), Festival de la Música Viva 2009 (Vic), Canadian music fest 2011 (Toronto), BBK Live 2012-2015 (Bilbo), EH Zuzenean 2010-2014, BIME 2014 ( Barakaldo), BIG Festival 2015 ( Biarritz), Monkey Week 2015 ( Cadiz), Portobello Live Festival 2016 ( Londres).

Seigarren diskak (ERA) sekulako ohiartzuna lortzen du medioetan eta kritika ta publikoaren harrera ezin hobea jasotzen du. ERA diskoko Negua joan da ta kanta taldearen klasiko bat bihurtu da geroztik, Myspace-en bi hilabetez gehien entzundako kanta izatera heldurik eta bideoak Youtuben 2.000.000 ikustaldi baino gehiago izan dituelarik.

Hurrengo bi diskak DA eta HARRO Tio Pete estudioan ( Urduliz-Bizkaia)
grabatu dituzte, Jose Lastra teknikari lanetan eta Dave M. Allen produkzioan izan direlarik. Allen produktore pretigiotsua da, The Cure taldearen Disintegration eta The head on the door disketan egindako lanengatik ezaguna besteak beste. Depeche mode, The sisters of Mercy, Neneh Cherry edo Reptile youth daniar talde gaztearen produktore ere izan da.
DA eta HARRO disken nahasketak Dave M. Allenek berak eginak dira Londreseko Club Ralph eta Studio 7 estudioetan hurrenez hurren. Masterizazioa Andy “Hippy” Baldwin-en lana da Londreseko Metropolis estudioetan burutua.

Zea Maysek kolaborazio piloa egin du hainbat taldekin, nabarmen da adibidez Aioraren parte-hartzea Doctor Deseo, Berri Txarrak, eta PiLT taldeen disketan, edo Fermin Muguruzak zuzendutako Zuloak filmean.

Alderantziz ere sekulako musikariek parte hartu dute Zea Maysen diskoetan, HARRO azken lanean LOVE OF LESBIAN taldeko Santi Balmesen ahotsa entzun dezakegu adibidez.
Diska hau GARDEN RECORDS taldearen discografikak argitara aterako du. 2016ko azaro ta abenduan aurkeztu zen Bartzelona, Madril, eta Euskal Herriko hiriburuetan.

2017an ZEA MAYS taldeak 20 urte bete zituen eta ospatu zuen bira batekin, sorpresa askorekin.

Gerora, ATERA diska 2019an atera zuen Campi Campo gidaritzapean eta 2022an Adore Kemena Kuraia diska atera zuen ekoizle desberdinekin, hau da, Ricky Falkner,Santi Garcia,Paco Loco,Dave.M.Allen eta Aritz Arambururekin batera.

Kontzertu pilo bat eginda ia ia danak Soldout izanda hasi du 2024a bere lehengo bira USAn eta Mexikotik.

Banda formada en Bilbao en junio de 1997 por Asier Basabe(batería), Ruben Gonzalez (bajo), Iñaki Imaz (guitarra) y Aiora Renteria (voz).

Zea mays ha actuado en un millar de escenarios por toda Euskal Herria y en las ciudades mas importantes de España girando en varias ocasiones por ciudades como Amsterdam, Liverpool, Berlín, Londres, Toronto, Tokio, Nagoya…
Además de conciertos multitudinarios en las fiestas de las grandes ciudades del País Vasco y de llenar las salas de conciertos allá por donde han actuado, han formado parte de carteles de grandes festivales como el Senglar rock 1998 (Tarragona), ADM Festival 2000 (Amsterdam), Festimad 2004 (Madrid), Fight for Rights 2009 (Tokio) , festival de la música viva 2009 (Vic), Canadian music fest 2011 (Toronto), BBK Live 2012-2015(Bilbao), EH Zuzenean 2010-2014, BIME 2014 ( Barakaldo), BIG Festival 2015 ( Biarritz), Monkey week 2015 ( Cadiz), Portobello live festival 2016 ( Londres)…

Con el 6º disco ERA (2010) el grupo obtiene una gran repercusión mediática y comercial siendo la acogida de la crítica y público excepcional, llegando a ocupar minutos en los telediarios en parte gracias a su canción “Negua Joan da ta” que se convierte en un gran clásico de la banda, consiguiendo ser el numero 1 de escuchas en myspace durante 2 meses, y a día de hoy, más de 2.000.000 de visitas de su videoclip en youtube…

Los dos últimos discos DA 2013 y HARRO 2016, han sido grabados en los estudios Tio Pete( Urduliz-Bizkaia) con Jose Lastra como técnico y producidos por el prestigioso productor Londinense Dave M. Allen, que es conocido por sus trabajos con The Cure , como “Disintegration” “ The head on the door ” u con otros grupos como Depeche mode, The sisters of Mercy, Neneh Cherry o bandas más actuales como los daneses Reptile youth.
Estos últimos discos fueron mezclados en Londres por Dave M. Allen en el estudio Club Ralph y Studio 7 respectivamente y masterizados en los estudios Metropolis de Londres por Andy “Hippy” Baldwin.

Durante este tiempo han colaborado con cantidad de bandas destacando la participación de Aiora en discos de Doctor Deseo, Berri txarrak ,PiLT o en el documental dirigido por Fermin Muguruza , Zuloak.
Además, grandes músicos han colaborado en sus discos destacando la voz de Santi Balmes (LOVE OF LESBIAN) en su último trabajo HARRO (2106)

Este último disco está editado bajo el sello discográfico propio GARDEN RECORDS y comenzará a presentarse en noviembre-diciembre de 2016, en Barcelona, Madrid y en las diferentes capitales de Euskal Herria.

Durante el próximo año 2017, el grupo ZEA MAYS cumplirá su 20 aniversario con una gran gira y muchas sorpresas…

Zea Mays was formed in Bilbao on june 1997 by Asier Basabe (drums), Ruben Gonzalez (bass), Iñaki Imaz (gitar) y Aiora Renteria (vocals).

Zea mays has performed in about a thousand venues througout the Basque Country and in the most important capitals in Spain, as well as cities like Amsterdam, Liverpool, Berlín, Londres, Toronto, Tokio or Nagoya.

Besides playing in crowded Basque city festivals and performing in sold-out venues everywhere, Zea Mays has been part of the line-up of great music festivals like the Senglar Rock 1998 (Tarragona), ADM Festival 2000 (Amsterdam), Festimad 2004 (Madrid), Fight for Rights 2009 (Tokio) , Festival de la Música Viva 2009 (Vic), Canadian Music Fest 2011 (Toronto), BBK Live 2012 & 2015 (Bilbao), EH Zuzenean 2010 & 2014, BIME 2014 ( Barakaldo), BIG Festival 2015 ( Biarritz), Monkey Week 2015 ( Cadiz) or the Portobello Live Festival 2016 ( London).

The sixth work ERA earns the band great media coverage and an exceptional reception by the professional critics and the public. The track Negua Joan da ta becomes a classic of the band and gets to be most listened to track during two subsequent months on Myspace. Up to now the videoclip of this track has been viewed more than 2.000.000 times on Youtubee

The last two albums DA and HARRO were recorded at the Tio Pete studio with sound engineer Jose Lastra and renoun producer Dave M. Allen. Allen is well known for his work with The Cure (Disintegration and The head on the door) and other artists such as Depeche mode, The sisters of Mercy, Neneh Cherry or the young danish band Reptile Youth.
These last records were mixed by Dave M. Allen in London at the Club Ralph studio and Studio 7 respectively. Andy “Hippy” Baldwin made the master copy at the Metropolis studio in London.

Zea Mays has collaborated with a number of artists, a couple of remarkable instances are Aiora's participations in records of Doctor Deseo, Berri txarrak ,PiLT or in Zuloak the documentary directed by Fermin Muguruza.
Reversely great artists have collaborated in the albums of Zea Mays, their last work HARRO features Santi Balmes of LOVE OF LESBIAN.

HARRO will be released under the band's own record label GARDEN RECORDS in november and december 2016 with concerts in Barcelona, Madrid and the capitals of the Basque Country.

In the year 2017 ZEA MAYS will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band with a tour and plenty of surprises!
