Ruby May Biography
Ruby May is sweet, soft, light yet strong. After picking up guitar and singing at a young age, she soon found them to be her favourite tools as she began to write. Growing up, she was influenced by Imogen Heap, Angus & Julia Stone, Daughter, Bon Iver and A Fine Frenzy, listening to each on repeat. Ruby was drawn to these artists because of their sweet vocals and strong lyrics. After releasing her indie-folk debut EP Wanderer in 2014, Ruby was forced to stop singing due to two major jaw operations in 2015. In 2016, Ruby spent her recovery time writing, and during this break, explored new musical worlds, identifying and being excited by new recording methods and soundscapes. Her songs are a reflection of the journey Ruby May is on, and the electro-pop music she has come to love.
Ruby May made her debut into the Sydney music scene in 2014 with her EP 'Wanderer' (producer Jordi White). As a young, fresh artist and very new to the industry, Ruby did what she knew to grow and learn as much as she could about 'making it' as an independent artist. In 2015 her musical pursuit was put on pause as she underwent two major jaw operations. This break gave her the time to reflect on writing, performing, recording and the music industry as a whole. 18 months on and Ruby May had come to the conclusion that it was music for her and nothing else. In 2017 she has come through with 'Chasing The Sun' (producer Nik Karlin) and will soon be releasing 'Drawing Forever' (producer Jordi White).
