Benjamin Alard, organ
Bach Looking in the Mirror [Festival de Granada] - Both on the harpsichord and on the organ, Benjamin Alard is known all over the world as one of the great Bachian interpreters nowadays, but the French musician has also demonstrated his talent in any other repertoire (in fact, at the 2023 Festival with his recital at San Jerónimo Church). This time, Alard will play on the organ that was built by Francisco Alonso in 2001 for the Church of Nuestro Salvador, so making a program that places Bach on one side –for many the greatest composer of organ music of all time– and on the other, Olivier Messiaen, who is like the former’s reflection in the 20th century. Principal organist of the Trinité of Paris for more than 60 years (from 1931 until his death in 1992), Messiaen wrote some of his most dazzling scores for the organ, from the very first and brief Le banquet céleste to the prodigious cycle of the Livre du Saint-Sacrement, a glorious testament to his career.
