About this concert
Catch GRAMMY® Nominees Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley perform as part of an incredible lineup of talent at Bourbon & Beyond, the world's largest bourbon and music festival, held Sept. 19-22, 2024, at the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville (this time with two additional stages and 40 additional musical acts than years past). Rob & Trey perform on Sept. 19. The celebration of music and whiskey is known for offering dozens of specialty bars and exciting musical performances across four days. This year, 100 musical acts will perform at the festival, including headliners Neil Young and Beck on Thursday, Dave Matthews Band and Tedeschi Trucks Band on Friday, Zach Bryan and Cody Jinks on Saturday, and Tyler Childers and My Morning Jacket on Sunday, along with Matchbox Twenty, The National, Whiskey Myers, Black Pumas, Fleet Foxes, The War On Drugs, Mt. Joy, The Beach Boys, Young the Giant, The Head and the Heart, Teddy Swims + more. "To have one of the most influential artists of all time, Neil Young, headline Bourbon & Beyond this year is so incredibly special. Not only do I love his music, but I think there is a real authenticity in his craft that has inspired generations of artists to find their true voice,” Danny Wimmer of Danny Wimmer Presents said in a news release. “To have such a timeless artist share the stage with some of today’s best storytellers and craftsmen is something truly exceptional. Plus, being able to celebrate hometown heroes, My Morning Jacket and Kentucky’s own, Tyler Childers, this year's Bourbon & Beyond lineup is truly a career highlight for me. We can’t wait to see everyone this September to celebrate the pure magic of this festival and the great city of Louisville.” In addition to four full days of music on five stages at Bourbon & Beyond, the festival experience will include daily workshops and demonstrations hosted by Chris Blandford, Amanda Freitag, Ed Lee, and Chris Santos — pairing world-renowned master distillers and celebrity chefs with guest artist appearances and a who’s who of Kentucky personalities, as well as a variety of additional onsite experiences, according to the news release. Bourbon & Beyond and DWP’s Louisville companion festival, Louder Than Life, which takes place the followingweekend, generated millions in local economic impact in 2023, and drew more than 300,000 attendees, according to the news release. Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley Biography

Take a 15-time IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Resophonic Guitar Player of the Year and a Tennessee-born guitar prodigy called “Nashville's hottest young player” by Acoustic Guitar magazine, and you have Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley, a powerhouse acoustic duo that has electrified the acoustic music scene around the world. Known for their white-hot picking and world class musicianship, as well as their soulful stone country vocals, the GRAMMY®-nominated duo cleverly and uniquely melds bluegrass, country, blues, rock, jamgrass, and string band music of all kinds to create a signature blend of music that defies restrictions of genre. NPR has called Ickes and Hensley "two musical phenoms"; Vintage Guitar raved they're an "acoustic firestorm" who "are changing the rules"; Acoustic Guitar describes their sound as "steel-string bluegrass with all the intensity of rock 'n' roll" and No Depression observed they're "two of the finest musicians playing today." Ickes and Hensley have shared the stage or collaborated with Tommy Emmanuel, Taj Mahal, Vince Gill, David Grisman, Jorma Kaukonen, Marty Stuart, and Steve Wariner—all admirers of the duo. Ickes, former founding member of bluegrass "supergroup" Blue Highway and highly sought-after Dobro master, has graced the recordings and concerts of artists such as Earl Scruggs, Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss, Tony Rice and more. Hensley, who earned his first IBMA Guitar Player of the Year nomination in 2020, made his Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 11 (thanks to an invite from Marty Stuart with Earl Scruggs...the video of the event has surpassed 1 million views on YouTube) and has appeared on stage with the likes of Johnny Cash, Peter Frampton and Old Crow Medicine Show. All three of the Compass Records albums released by Ickes and Hensley have received widespread acclaim, including their debut BEFORE THE SUN GOES DOWN, which garnered a GRAMMY® nomination, and the combo's most recent release WORLD FULL OF BLUES, which features collaborations with Vince Gill and Taj Mahal. Ickes and Hensley recently teamed with guitar master Tommy Emmanuel for a very special EP, TOMMY EMMANUEL - ACCOMPLICE SERIES VOL. I WITH ROB ICKES AND TREY HENSLEY. The EP was released May 7, 2021 to critical acclaim. The three high-powered guitar virtuosos performed together on the Grand Ole Opry on May 8, 2021 and from famed Nashville venue 3rd & Lindsley on May 9, 2021 via worldwide broadcasts to celebrate the release of the project. Ickes and Hensley are busy at work on their fourth duo record for Compass Records with GRAMMY®-winning producer Brent Maher.
