About this concert
A Night Of Glass - Dan Whitehouse with special guest Gustaf Ljunggren via Tuned In London A musical journey into the heart of glass in its myriad manifestations Over the past two years, acclaimed singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse has been in a transparently reflective mood with three albums all themed around the physical and metaphorical nature of glass. Influenced by keeping in contact with his young son living in Japan, ‘The Glass Age’ explores our screen-fixated society's communication challenges. ‘Voices From The Cones’ commemorates glassmaking history in Stourbridge and ‘Reflections On The Glass Age’ offers mirror images of the first album, the same songs refracted through acoustic reinterpretations, intimately sung and played to distill the sweet melancholia of the material. Songs and stories from these projects have now been gathered together for ‘A Night Of Glass’, a simple but hypnotic live experience in which, variously behind a piano or on guitar, Dan takes audiences deep into the heart of glass in its myriad manifestations, his expressively nuanced crystalline vocals, a hint of Bowie here, a touch of Cohen there, effortlessly mining a wealth of emotions and ideas. This is where the light gets in. George Bernard Shaw said “You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul” a testament to Dan’s intoxicating songwriting, consummate musicianship and quiet, unassuming charisma with songs like ‘Rainbows Never End’, ‘Thin Blue Line’, the anthemic ‘New Love’ and the infectious, crowd-friendly ‘Work’, ‘A Night Of Glass’ is the melting point where art transforms. Dan is joined on selected dates by Gustaf Ljunggren (who co-produced and performed on all three albums). Lungrenn also brings music from his own Floreana album. “He plays everything from Sax to Synth, Pedal Steel to Piano, and Banjo to Bass!” says Dan, “but above all else, he listens!” Dan Whitehouse: “Gorgeous… intriguing” The Guardian “Subtle and delicate melodies” The Sunday Times Gustaf Ljunggre: “A gentle masterpiece” The Vinyl Anachronist “Awash with luscious soundscapes of lyrical beauty” At The Barrier VIDEOS The Glass Age - Dan and Gustaf live in Copenhagen: https://youtu.be/-a8OaWJdxyE Campfire - Dan - live at Real World Studios https://youtu.be/f-Fx0h0DL0M Work - Dan - live at Real World Studios https://youtu.be/6dr7YWcA1oM Olive - from Floreanna - Gustaf https://youtu.be/IxaCI7CiWH0

“Nothing short of beautiful – **** ” — RnR Magazine
“Wonderful production and writing” — Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music
“Subtle and delicate melodies” — The Sunday Times

Acclaimed Black Country singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse has gained a reputation as “a fine songwriter, a unique vocal talent and a talented multi-instrumentalist/performer” (MAVERICK) across five solo albums including 2020 release Dreamland Tomorrow.

2022 the International Year of Glass - Dan is focusing on two album releases, serendipitously glass related (at opposite ends of the spectrum).

The Glass Age - songs which look at how our human experience and ways of connecting have changed through the ‘glass’, the screens, of virtual meetings and communication.

‘Voices From The Cones’ - an Arts Council funded Midlands-centric song-cycle which tells the stories of the community of glassworkers of the Stourbridge glass factory which closed in 1992. An important part of our industrial and social history.
