Também Biography
Também is a woman-led quartet based in Durham, North Carolina that explores the intersection of Brazilian and American music through a wide range of rhythms and textures. Characterized by rhythmic play, improvisation, and dance-able grooves, their music takes inspiration from Brazilian legends such as Hermeto Pascoal, Elza Soares, and Milton Nascimento as well as bands such as StereoLab and Hiatus Kaiyote.
Originally the brainchild of pianist and vocalist Ingrid Nora Knight and percussionist/vocalist Deborah Rosengarth, Também now includes Uruguayan drummer and percussionist Gastón Reggio, bassist Andy Powell and flutist/vocalist Rebecca Kleinmann.
Também is a live ensemble performing together frequently across North Carolina and a group of studio musicians producing recorded albums. With the philosophy of using the studio as a compositional tool, their recorded music is multilayered and innovative. “Também” is a Portuguese word roughly translating to “also” or “as well” in English and a key element of the project is the inclusion of a multiplicity of influences to create something surprising, unlikely, and new.
They released their debut album entitled "Esmeralda" October 2022 and will release their second album this November.
