Willie D & The Hip Pockets

Willie D & The Hip Pockets perform at The Skylark Lounge at 6pm every 2nd and 4th Sunday. In June '24 they make an exception and perform on the 1st and 4th Sunday. Willie D sings passionately and plays saxophone on jazz/blues originals and dance-hall classics. His music is designed to inspire dancing, jubilation, and appreciation for life-in-tempo. The band released their debut album - "Rock, Rhythm, & Jazz" - on Blue Vada Records in 2022 and have followed the release with live concerts at legendary Austin venues such as Antone's "Home Of The Blues", The Skylark Lounge, and The White Horse. They have begun work on their sophomore album - tentativly named "That Travis County Willie D" - due for release in late summer on Blue Vada Records. They've made media appearances on Fox 7, CBS, KWVH, Space ATX Sessions, Austin American-Statesman, Austin Monthly Magazine, The Liberty Vindicator, and had a live rendition of Willie D original "Daybreak Talent Show" featured in Glide Magazine. Willie D & The Hip Pockets are also prominently featured on Pete Thomas' Taming-The-Saxophone website. In addition to leading The Hip Pockets, Willie D is the music director and saxophonist for Soul Man Sam, composer/house musician for the episodic Le Peep/The Girlie Revue Cabaret shows, saxophone/clarinet instructor at Strait Music in ATX, and a licensed massage therapist (2015 graduate from the Lauterstein-Conway Massage School). Willie D & The Hip Pockets perform at 6pm every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at The Skylark Lounge.
