Förderkreis Volkshaus in englisch
The Volkshaus (community center) is a traditional meeting place – not only for the district of Tungendorf. It attracts a wide audience with concerts from blues to jazz and classical music, as well as readings and theater productions.
The Volkshaus was established in 1922 on the initiative of the working community of Tungendorf as a non –profit social center where the poorer population and the workers from the numerous surrounding textile factories could find support and an area for recreation, in accordance with social reformer Settlement Movement principles.
The representative symmetrical three-wing building was completed in 1922 to designs by Ernst Prinz. To this day its original holistic social purpose lives on. It is home to a multi-generation house with a café, a nursery, the district library, and a beautiful ceremonial hall that is filled with cultural life by the friends´ association of the Volkshaus Tungendorf.
We are 18 friends who do all things that must be done to make concerts possible and naturally then attend to the details that make it great! Book the entertainers and arrange the concert times (as well as insure their comfort, accommodations and meals), organize public relations, prepare the hall, promote so you know about what we bring our venue and community, and serve drinks and snacks in the break. The length of our concerts differs from two to three hours. Before and in the break we serve a variety of snacks, beer, wine and soft drinks. People like very much to meet and to communicate in concerts. And with ease, our guests find places for parking in the streets around.
The Go-Getter Tour
Melanie Dekker (CAN): A voice like chocolate. Musical diversity. Sunshine. Power. Love & soulfulness. Combine all this with an entertainer whose joyful Canadian spirit has released 9 acoustic-pop albums and performs 80 shows per year throughout Canada, USA & Europe. In Germany you’ve seen her perhaps on the big stages at Hildesheim Jazz Fest, Dresden Stadt Fest, Rudolstadt World Music Fest or at Munich’s Tollwood Festival and in Denmark at the Skagen Festival & Nibe Festival. Mela (as her friends call her) has been the support act for Bryan Adams, Faith Hill & Chaka Khan. “My songs are nostalgic with an optimistic punch”, says the songwriter who’s had a hit song on Canadian radio called “I Said I’. The sensational sidekick, producer Allan Rodger, adds his rockin’ and soaring Stratocaster to inspire you further. www.melaniedekker.com || www.facebook.com/meldekker

Melanie Dekker Biography
A voice like chocolate, vivacious authentic persona. Melanie Dekker, tours over 80 concerts in Europe, Canada, Mexico and the USA yearly. During Covid she worked on a Hummingbird movie script, recorded a Christmas Album - The New Old Fashioned Way, and a sassy 1920's album - Barnstormer, side one. Her roots-pop style is warm and uplifting and her 2018 'Secret Spot' album was an eagerly anticipated 10 song album sponsored by Creative BC. 'Secret Spot' was recorded in a relaxed manner over a one year time frame with award-winning Canadian engineer Sheldon Zaharko, and a few tracks include Keith Scott's guitar licks (Bryan Adams guitar player). There is loads of Melanie Dekker's music available as she tours with an elaborate discography and now with 8 albums in tow. Her biggest seller to date is “Distant Star” and her personal favourites is her live CD "Lekker Eh". Dekker has opened for Diana Krall, Bryan Adams, Russell Peters and Faith Hill, and also performed for President William J. Clinton. She’s made a string of popular youtube videos which include her music synched to her view on the Polar Bear Swim, the 2010 Olympics, Mallorca's scenic side, her own Wisdom tooth removal, her Christmas concerts in Afghanistan, and a romantic run in with a mannequin.
