SPIZM Biography
Living 6,298 miles apart between singer/drummer Dave Marsalek in Chicago and bassist, producer Pablo Pascoll in Tokyo certainly comes with its challenges. But through the pandemic SPIZM has never been more active. Fully leaning into and embracing the vocal, emotive synth-driven sound with 2022s full length B4uDie on IZM Records, this drums and bass duo continues to surprise even itself, expanding the breadth of its sonic boundaries with hell's fury.
SPIZM began with 2004s Movements EP that showcased the punk-steeped live drum n bass ethos. Live sampling, upright bass and a franken-kit were among the many weapons put in place for effectively lacing live jungle grooves, amen soundscapes, and IDM bangers. Within vast Midwest and East coast touring and Chicago gigging, SPIZM opened for the likes of Sound Tribe Sector 9, Horse the Band!, Johnny Rabb, Future Rock and more.
SPIZM met the pandemic with a colossal writing spree by Dave Marsalek that unearthed what would become B4uDie (the album), several collaborative singles, MARS RISING and LAY TO REST releases. Since mid-2022, SPIZM has been playing live, with separate units in Chicago and Tokyo. Saturday May 13th 2023 at Livewire in Chicago marked the first time SPIZM members played on the same stage since 2019, celebrating 20 years together. Shows continue in both Chicago and Tokyo.
