Heardrum

“When are you?” is a sound artwork that combines sound technology with art. Conceptually, the title refers to the interchange of the temporal and spatial aspects of sound. This work will shape space with soundscapes utilizing a reverb and panning system across the non-formatted loudspeaker coverage field. The sound positions develop and react to triggers in the space demonstrating the substance of momentary density and the ephemera of sound’s elongated decay. The exploration of these occurrences in space and time examines our expectations and assumptions about both where and when the behavior of sonic signifiers appears to us as listeners. Encountering recorded or synthesized sounds often suffers from a tyranny of center, and an avoidance of dispersed periphery. When is also where and surprisingly on the same plane of operations.
