About this concert
In 2011 werd Lavinia Meijer door Philip Glass uitgenodigd in zijn concert in de Melkweg in Amsterdam op te treden, zij had daarvoor onder meer zijn Metamorphosis bewerkt voor harp. Hij zei over haar “Lavinia is a wonderful talent and it’s a great pleasure for me to hear her perform my music”.
Ze werkte de afgelopen jaren nauw met hem samen en brengt met dit programma een ode aan deze iconische componist. Ze dook onder meer in zijn Metamorphosis, de filmmuziek van The Hours en in zijn Etudes die hij in een tijdspan van meer dan 20 jaar componeerde. Hiermee laat ze zien hoe zijn muziek zich heeft ontwikkeld en hoe de bouwstenen van zijn composities zijn uitgekozen.

Lavinia Meijer Biography
Dutch - South Korean, award-winning harpist Lavinia Meijer is one of the most diverse harpists of the 21st century. After her debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York in 2007, she is invited regularly to perform as a soloist in Europe, Asia and America. In 2009 she was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest distinction by the Dutch Government for a Dutch classical musician. Meijer is passionate about broadening the possibilities of the harp. Her affinity with the music of Philip Glass and her intense groundbreaking renditions of his music have mesmerised audiences across the world. Her albums Metamorphosis/The Hours and The Glass Effect interpret works of Philip Glass, a process Glass himself was involved in. Their meeting marked the beginning of a new musical journey for Lavinia. Her albums are released worldwide (Channel Classics, Sony Classics) and have been rewarded with an Edison Award and a golden and platinum-status.
