About this concert
xylouris white (gr/au)
xylouris white is a musical collaboration established in 2013, involving greek singer and laouto player george xylouris and australian drummer jim white, best known for his work with dirty three. the duo's music has been described as combining "free-jazz, avant-rock and ages-old greek folk traditions."
more in tune now with the rhythm of the sun and moon, xylouris white speak to each other across great distances with the intuition and fellowship that can only be found over years in each other’s company. with fewer distractions, appreciative of the freedom to play with new sounds and spaces, they carve "the forest in me" released in 2023 from unbelievably thin air.

guillaume cazalet (be)
raag malkauns & raag todi
guillaume cazalet (czlt) — headliner of neptunian maximalism nnmm, zaäar, ôros kaù, sol kia, jenny torse, aksu — begins his solo act by working for contemporary artists felix luque & iñigo bilbao for the art video masterpiece "junkyard", by recording deep drone metal soundscapes like soma’s work ( sunno))) ). from this work, he produced junkyard, his first album by combining the traditional classical sitar with a drone metal guitar approach. this was the starting point of czlt project, released by ascetic visions, wv sorcerer productions and homo-sensibilis sounds, the label he runs.
consequently, czlt has dug deep into the devoted works of indian classical music and dhrupad masters, such as ustad imrat khan, ustad irshad khan, ustad asad ali khan, jyoti hegde, zia fariduddin dagar, mita nag, and many others.
today he learns to play sitar, surbahar, rudra veena and vocals practice through contact with the renowned anglo-indian sitarist roopa panesar and the dhrupad sub branch with the tunisian singer/rudra veena player heikel ben mlouka. the result in his work is a resolutely experimental approach across all these influences.
this research is dedicated to gaining mastery of the surbahar / rudra veena and vocal practices as well as to transpose this into the occidental context of amplified music. as such, these elements are applied to the drone metal, ambient/binaural and experimental musical approach of czlt. exploring the harmonic scales and giving the sound a new power provided by a large range of harmonics, from the microtonal aluminium barytone guitar blended with distortion from multiple bass and guitar stacks, creating a physical and immersive live experience.

Xylouris White Biography
Master of Cretan lute, George Xylouris, and Jim White a most innovative and charismatic of drummer, have fulfilled a long held ambition in coming together as a duo and recording their first album GOATS.
Fluid in nature, exciting and edgy, the music is riveting, compelling, spellbinding.
As George Xylouris, drove Jim White from home to the studio, they saw a lot of goats on Crete’s rocky hillsides. Georges is Crete’s master of the lute. Jim is best known as the drummer of Dirty Three. Goats, jim thought, would be a good name for the recording they were about to make. Goats are quintessentially Cretan animals. They love the high crags. They take risks, calmly look about for new dangers. Goats, Jim and George agreed were a metaphor for the music they were about to invent, music that would fuse traditional Cretan music with rock. Both traditions would of course have to adapt, really adapt, but both these goats are lovers of going right up to the edge and nearly over.
